Signed Trading Cards: Tommy Rich, Tully Blanchard, Roppongi Vice

In this post we take a look at a couple through the mail success and two that my pal Roy got signed for me.

Tommy "Wildfire" Rich

I mailed these cards to Tommy's new wrestling school and got them back in short time.  Both of these cards were released in 1991 the one on the left by Impel and right Championship Marketing.

Tully Blanchard

I mailed these three cards above to Mr. Blanchard because I found a new address for him and even though I already had cards signed by him I wanted more.  Tully is one of my all time favorite wrestlers and why not add more to me collection.  All three of these cards were released by Wonderama in 1988.  Below the card on the left is from the same 1988 Wonderama set and the card on the right is from the 2007 Topps Heritage III set.  This card is signed by both Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard and I got it signed at the 2009 NWA Legends Fanfest in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Trent Beretta

This card my pal Roy got signed for me at a Beyond Wrestling event.  The card is from the Japanese 2016 King of Pro Wrestling set.

Rocky Romero

Roy also got this card signed for me at the same Beyond Wrestling show as Trent and Rocky were tagging at Roppongi Vice. This card is from the Japanese 2015 King of Pro Wrestling card set.

Roy's Review: NXT Lowell 9/21/2017

Here is my review of NXT in Lowell, Massachusetts on September 21, 2017

Match 1: The Street Profits: Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford defeated Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli
About as basic of a tag team match they could have possibly had. Not the way I would have opened the show.
5/10

Match 2: Lars Sullivan defeated Oney Lorcan
This was a 3 minute squash but Oney did get in a little bit of offense before he got annihilated. Great ovation for Lorcan before and after the match.
4.5/10

Match 3: The Iconic Duo: Billie Kay & Peyton Royce defeated Dakota Kai and Liv Morgan
Again another basic tag team match. This time I didn't really care.
4/10

Match 4: Roderick Strong defeated Hideo Itami
Solid match but not nearly as good as I would have expected. Roddy hit a couple sick backbreakers.
6/10

Match 5: The Undisputed Era: Adam Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly fought Sanity: Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain to a no contest
This was a good match until the awful ending. Fish and O'Reilly were double teaming Dain when the referee called for the bell. It seemed that it was a DQ but it was ruled a No Contest which made no sense.
6/10

Match 6: Johnny Gargano defeated Raul Mendoza
Awesome match. These guys really put on a show and it really stood out on a show that was full of average at best wrestling. Mendoza even hit a coast to coast which was pretty sweet. Match of the night by about 10 miles.
9/10

Match 7: Kiri Sane defeated Sonya Deville
Solid match with both impressing just the match had to many awkward spots. In the end Sane got the win with her sick top rope elbow.
6/10

Match 8: NXT Champion Drew McIntyre defeated Andrade Almas to retain
This was your typical WWE house show main event. They did just enough to get by and nothing really more.
5.75/10

In Ring: After the main event, The Undisputed Era came out and attacked Drew Mcintyre. Johnny Gargano, Oney Lorcan and The Street Profits tried to make the save but they got beat down too, until Sanity came out and chased off Fish and O'Reilly leaving Cole to get wrecked by everyone in the ring.

This show scored a 46.25 out of 80 for an overall score of 57.81%. After the first match was so average and basic, this show just became a typical WWE house show, except for Gargano vs. Mendoza, that was pretty awesome. If NXT comes back to New England again I won't be in attendance. I was really disappointed with this show.

Limitless Wrestling: Questions the Answers 9/22/2017 Live Report

Friday the 22nd day of September Limitless Wrestling returned to the Westbrook Armory in front of a capacity crowd of more than 450 people to bear witness to "Question the Answers"!

Canaan and I met up with Roy, Mikey outside the venue just before doors opened. In a departure for me I bought Front Row instead of VIP because I just wasn't that interested in meeting Jack Swagger.  I appreciated his in ring performance against AR Fox, but didn't feel the need to spend the extra cash.

Once in the venue we took our seats in our normal location with Mikey, Roy, Bradford, Derek and others that I have come to befriend at the show.  It's kind of cool that we regulars tend to always sit in the same place at each show.

It was a damn good night of wrestling!

JT Dunn pinned Joey Janela

My first time seeing the Bad Boy and I was very excited to finally do so.  I was surprised that this match opened the show but not surprised how good it was.  I've watched matches on YouTube of these guys trying to kill each other in a cage match and dog collar match.  Although this match lacked the special stipulations it didn't lack the intensity.  I really want Janela to comeback next month and every show after that, sincerely I don't think I could get tired of watching him wrestle.

Post match Dunn cut a promo on Anthony Greene who was at commentary stating that Limitless Wrestling was the house that Dunn built and essentially challenged Greene.

Thick Boys: Jon Silver & Jay Freddie defeated LAX: EYFBO: Angel Ortiz & Mike Draztik

The debut of the tag team of Silver and Freddie showed to be magnificent pairing as they got the upset victory over the former GFW Tag Team Champions: LAX.  They sprinkled some comedy through-out the match but in the end it was the raw power of the Thick Boys that gained them their first victory.  I wonder who their next opponents will be.

"Top Shelf" Troy Nelson pinned Swoggle with Syndey Bakabella

Once again Troy Nelson upended Bakabella's hired assassin to keep his winning streak alive.  I think the key to Sydney finding someone to dispose of Nelson would be to hire a person that likes him.  Because so far none of them have and they all give him a well deserved beating post match.

I really enjoyed this match and even Roy, who is not a fan of comedy wrestling, burst out laughing when Nelson super kicked Swoggle.  I would assume that the end of this rivalry would need to have Bakabella step into the ring with Nelson himself.

Six Man Scramble
Josh Briggs defeated "Smart" Mark Sterling, Dick Justice, Jimmy Lloyd, Jeff Cannonball, & Mr. Grim pinning Sterling

This match had just about everything in it and talk about an odd crew of guys.  We saw a mix of strong style, high flying, mat wrestling, action spilling to the floor, guys brawling to the back, Cannonball putting Lloyd through a table, and a sing-a-long of Jumper by Third Eye Blind lead by Dick Justice when Briggs was going to dive off the top rope onto everyone.  He still did it, but it was  truly awesome and unique experience.

I really love these Six-Man Scrambles because you never know what is going to happen.  This time we got to vote in three of the six competitors.  I hope these continue, in November we are getting the first six woman scramble and I can't wait to find out who is in it.

Jack Swagger submitted AR Fox with the ankle lock

This was billed as a "Styles Clash" match and indeed it was.  This was a good match, but I wasn't blown away buy it.  I really wanted to see a doctor bomb as Swagger is really the only guy that does them and they look great, but he didn't do one.  Also Fox has a couple signature dives that he does and as far as I can recall he didn't do either.

Swagger definitely looked different than his tenure in the WWE and from what I could see he was super friendly and courteous to all the fans that interacted with him.

Teddy Hart pinned Maxwell Jacob Friedman

This was a great match!  Maxwell is a fantastic heel and at the end of the match he showed respect to Hart.  Teddy Hart is so frigging good in the ring!  Friedman spent the majority of the match working the wrist and Hart sold it well, even when he would execute an offensive move he went right back to selling the wrist.  Finish came after an explosive series of high impact moves ending with Hart getting the pin after a variation of the lung blower from the electric chair position.

Post match Hart gave an impassioned promo talking about professional wrestling and what it means to to him.  He got a please come back chant, which the only other time I can recall hearing one was for JT Dunn.  Hart made a comment about coming back to challenge someone when Josh Briggs hit the ring.  I am very excited about seeing these two in the ring next month.

Joey Ryan & Massage Envy: VSK & Dorian Graves defeated The Maine State Posse: Danger Kid, Aiden Aggro, & Alexander Lee

My first time seeing Joey Ryan live and he did not disappoint not by a long shot.  Massage NV attempted to give Ryan a pre-match rubdown but The Posse jumped them stating that the bit took too long.  Some good solid wrestling and some good comedy bits.  One of my favorites was when VSK & Joey Ryan was on their hands and knees and Graves squirted oil on their backs and then slid across them headbutting their opponents in the balls as they sat in the corners.  Here's a picture.

Danger Kid dumped a bag of blow pops on the canvas but he was flipped onto the by Joey Ryan's dick.  I imagine it didn't feel good.  Prior to that though, Kid opened one and ran it through hole in his ear from his giant gauge which is kind of gross.  He attempted to shove it into Ryan's mouth but it ended up in Aggro's.  This makes two loses in a row for The Posse, although they didn't seem to mind as all six men toasted with blow pops.

Loser Leaves Limitless Wrestling
Cam Zagami with Mike Gamble defeated Tyler Nitro by referee stoppage

Cam came out in a new costume that looked ridiculous.  Gamble got himself sent to back pretty early in the match much to the delight of the crowd.  Later in the match the referee got knocked down and of course Nitro had the pin but no one to count the fall.  Gamble came back out attacking Nitro which lead to Cam locking in his submission American Grip where Nitro passed out.  The referee finally came too and called for the bell.

I only hope that Nitro comes back next month under a mask as Yellow Dog.

Skylar submitted Willow Nightingale

My first time seeing Nightingale in person.  Talking to her at intermission she was super nice, I bought a trading card sized sticker that she signed for me.  This was a really good match, I was very impressed by Nightingale.  Skylar keeps getting better and better, I hope both of these girls are in the women's scramble match next month.

"All Good" Anthony Greene pinned Ace Romero with special referee Brian Fury

DAMN!! These guys beat the shit out of each other. Fantastic match with the action going all over the building at one point.  Greene did a dive that pushed them both into the third row.  Both wrestlers had tension with their trainer and referee Brian Fury including Romero accidentally back elbowing him.  Later Fury tried to superkick Greene but hit Romero.  I'm wondering if Romero will take exception to it.

Greene was the bad guy in this match and played it well.  He hailed from Funtown USA which if you're from Maine you know is in Saco, which is Romero's home town.  I was surprised how fast the people turned on Greene.  He even had new music to mark the occasion with a special introduction on the track.

Post match Fury and Greene squared off and Dunn entered, he went to hit Greene with Death by Elbow but accidentally hit Fury.  The only thing I didn't like was that Greene didn't cut a post match promo on Dunn.

To sound sappy for a moment but I really feel like this show was a giant accomplishment and I truly feel like all of us who support Limitless Wrestling are a part of something special.

They return in Westbrook November 3rd with a six woman scramble match, JT Dunn vs. Anthony Greene, & Teddy Hart vs. Josh Briggs, plus it was announced that Son of Havoc aka Matt Cross will be making his Limitless Debut.  Tickets on sale October 2nd.

Signed Trading Cards: Christi Jaynes, Lance Storm, & More

In this post all the signed cards are through the mail successes.

Christi Jaynes

This card is from the Japanese Stardom World 2017 card set.  Janyes is an independent wrestler based out of Texas.  I found out through and instagram post of her's that my letter was her first ever fan mail so that's cool.

Caylen Croft

These cards are both from the Topps 2010 WWE Card set.  Croft currently is out of wrestling and runs an art studio in Florida.

Lance Storm

I don't think I need to explain to anyone who Lance Storm is, all of the cards I go signed by Mr. Storm sending them to his Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary...........Alberta, Canada.  The above last month and below a few years back.  I don't like cards signed on the back, so when I mailed the most recent ones I asked him to sign the front of them.  The top left cards is from the Japanese Baseball Magazine 1996 card set, the right is from the Fleer 2003 WrestleMania XIX card set.  The card below was included with ECW wrestling figures made by the San Francisco Toymakers in 2000.

Danny Bonaduce

This card I mailed to the radio station that Bonaduce works at in Seattle.  This card is from the 2009 TNA TriStar set.  Bonaduce wrestled Eric Young at the 2009 TNA Lockdown PPV.  Previously he wrestled Chistopher Knight in a dark match prior to WCW Spring Stampede 1994.  He also competed on Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Wrestling.

That time Jacques Rogeau pinned Hulk Hogan

Jacques Rougeau
Yes it really happened in 1997 in Montreal at what is now called the Bell Centre, and this was not a WCW show even though Hogan was the WCW Champion at the time and Rougeau was in WCW too.  This show was promoted by Jacques Rougeau himself and drew a recorded 9,000 fan to the 23,000 seat arena.

A video on YouTube with The Hannibal TV Rougeau stated he spent $225,000 on this show bringing Hulk Hogan and other stars of WCW to Montreal.

WCW Champion: "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan
There has been a lot of speculation on how it came to be that Rougeau pinned Hogan when at that time in 1997 the list of men that had pinned Hogan was only a few.  I read multiple sources including Kevin Owens on the Art of Wrestling Podcast stating that Rougeau paid Hogan $10,000 to lay down from him that night.

On an early November 2010 episode of Right After Wrestling with former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas and Arda Ocal Rougeau spoke about the incident:

"Hogan turned to me and said ‘Jacques, I’m going to make you win tonight’.. and I started laughing in front of all the boys because it was so funny and all the boys were laughing. It took me a couple years to realize why he wanted to do that. It wasn’t me who pinned him it was the Rougeau family and what we did for wrestling. Also it’s because of what I did to Dynamite Kid. You know the big fight I had with the Bulldogs. Hulk is a guy with a good image and he took care of wrestling and he didn't like the guys partying all night. We know Dynamite made Honky Tonk cry in the dressing room, he shaved Outback Jack’s head, do things to the boys that didn’t deserve it. And when he picked on me, I had a choice to make. I’ll either become the laughing stock of the WWF, or I’m going to make a comeback. I did it out of pride."

In September 2014 Hulk Hogan did an interview with Slam Wrestling and this is what he said about this match:

"It was business and it was the right thing to do. "Jacques was working very very hard for wrestling in Montreal. And on top of that, Jacques is a great man, a good wrestler and I know he would've done the same thing for me. Me and him had a little bit of an argument about it because he disagreed with me [about the ending of the match]. But I won at the end!

"I got a ton of heat [from WCW], but I didn't care. Those guys were all a bunch of marks back in the day anyway, so I didn't care."

Other rumors I read on the internet include that Hogan was mad at Bischoff and took the loss to make WCW look bad, that Hogan only agreed because the show was not televised, that it cost both Rougeau and Ouellet their jobs with WCW.  Again these are just rumors that I have no source for.

Either way on this night Jacques Rougeau accomplished something few others have been able to do and more importantly Hogan never got his win back after this match.  In fact the only other match that I could find on record involving Jacques and Hogan didn't end for Hogan.

January 6, 1989 at the Montreal Forum Hulk Hogan, Jim Duggan, & Ronnie Garvin defeated Dino Bravo & The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers by disqualification when Bravo refused to release a bear hug on Hogan.  Hogan was stretchered out of the building.  When WWE returned to Montreal on March 10, 1989 Hogan defeated Bravo in the main event.

You can watch the match for yourself, it's on YouTube as it was filmed by a fan that night.  Another rumor implied that Rougeau himself had the match filmed, and who can blame him I'd want the biggest win of my career documented on film.  I've also included a link from YouTube of the press conference before the event and the same fan video this time it includes all the matches featuring the WCW talent.
