C*4 Wrestling "Undisputed" Live Report 9/20/2019

In February 2019 my wife and I decided that our annual September vacation was going to be in the Ottawa, Ontario region.  At that time it was my hope that I would be able to find a wrestling show to attend.  Unless I go on vacation specifically for wrestling, whenever I go on vacation I always look for wrestling shows to attend and it never works out that there is one I can go to.

This vacation started out the same with the only major promotion in the area, C*4 wrestling not having a show listed September.  I wasn't able to find may other promotions in the area, but C*4 is the PWG of Canada and was the one I wanted to go to the most.

In May Ethan Page wrestled at Limitless and I ask him if he knew of any and he said that he didn't.  I messaged a few wrestlers in that area including Stu Grayson, former Super Smash Brother now known as the Dark Order in AEW.  On August 7th he messaged that C*4 would be running on Friday September 20th, the day we would be arriving in Ottawa.  C*4 made it official after their August 16th show.

Finally it was going to work out to hit up a show on vacation and to check a major box off  the wrestling check list, attend a show in a other country, and a C*4 show.

The wife, Wesley, and I headed out early the morning of Friday September 20th arriving at out AirBNB in Cantley, Quebec just after 4pm.  After unloading we sat around a bit and then I headed out to make the 30 minute drive back to Ottawa and St. Anthony's Hall.  I found the venue easy enough and parked across the street in the city lot.

There was a huge crowd lined down the building, but once the doors opened up they very quickly got everyone inside the building.  Fans were showing up through out the evening and I would wager over 400 were there by shows end.  The front row VIP sold out very quickly in advance, I ended up with General Admission, only $20!

Before the show started a few wrestlers were out at their tables.  I saw Lufisto for the first time since 2000 at an EWA show in Maine.  I had a couple posters from that very show that I gave her and she was pretty shocked to see them.  I snagged a photo with her and got two cards signed.  I also got a picture with Alex Zayne before the show, I was excited to see him live for the first time.

I tried to take pictures, they didn't come out that well so I gathered these from the internet, full credit to those who took them.

They had a pre-show match that I wasn't expecting, that was nice.

Lindworm pinned Anthony Gaines

Fun opening match, I wasn't familiar with either but they worked hard and were very entertaining.  Lots of good action that really fired the crowd up.  I was most impressed with Anthony Gaines, he's a Buffalo guy so I'm sure I'll see him again one day.

Main Show

"Scrapper" James Stone pinned Junior Benito

The fans loved them some Junior Benito and I can see why.  He's a young kid who is excellent in the ring and in a few years will be a well known name all over.  It was my first time seeing both of these guys in person and they meshed very well in the ring together.  Stone pinned Benito after a buckle bomb into a gotch style piledriver.  Hell of a finish!

#The Best: Logan Reid & Spunk and Billy Brash defeated Sexxxy Eddy and The Gym Nasty Boys: White Mike & Timmy Lou Retton

I've seen Eddy a few times in the past, but this was my first time seeing everyone else live.  The Gym Nasty's are deceptively athletic and agile.  I mean holy cow Timmy Lou was tumbling all over the ring and hit a picture perfect shooting star press.  Billy Brash is also damn good!  He was flying off the top rope like it was nothing, I didn't expect that at all.  More guys I'm hoping Randy brings into Limitless Wrestling.

The finish came when #The Best pinned Eddy with a school boy.

Post match Eddy cut a promo about being on the first few C*4 cards and then hasn't been back for 10 years until now.  He went on saying he doesn't know if has it in the tank anymore to compete with the young talent in C*4.

Underground Champion: Jonathan Rukin defeated Shane Simmons

Early in the match Rukin hit a dropkick but he landed awkwardly on his left shoulder and appeared to legit injure himself.  He was hampered by it for the rest of the match.  To be blunt the crowd didn't seem to care at all about this match until Simmons pulled out a couple chairs and a door, then they popped.  Simmons set the doors up on two chairs and laid Rukin on it, who moved when Simmons came off the second rope putting himself through the door.  Rukin then choked out Simmons winning by referee stoppage.

The Dark Order: Evil Uno & Stu Grayson defeated Buffalo Brothers: Kevin Blackwood & Kevin Bennett

TAG TEAM WRESTLING!! That's what we got with this match, a damn good tag team wrestling match.  My favorite match of the night.  This was my first time seeing the Dark Order live and they are such an amazing tag team.  I've seen Blackwood many times here in Maine for Limitless Wrestling but I can't recall ever seeing Bennett before but I'm hoping to see him again.

I can't do this match justice trying to write up a review and I didn't want to look away to make notes during it.  There was a lot of back and forth action, quick tags, tandem offense for both teams.  Including the Dark Order busting out a 450 splash / cannon ball combo.  Dark Order picked up the win pinning Bennett after fatality.

C*4 Champion: "Walking Weapon" Josh Alexander defeated "The Wounded Owl" Lufisto

I've been watching Alexander for years but this my first time seeing him live. I expected a barn burner of a match and they did not disappoint.  The beat the crap out of each other for over 20 minutes including early in the match when they sat on chairs in the ring exchanging strikes.

The action was inside and outside the ring including an unbelievable finishing sequence that saw Alexander hit a blue thunder bomb, powerbomb backbreaker, and a Jay driller before finally getting the win and retaining his championship.

After the match Lufisto got a standing ovation for the very appreciative crowd.

Intermission followed this match was needed to help the audience catch their breath.  During intermission I got my Stu Grayson to sign a couple cards for me and got a picture with him.  I also got a photo with Josh Alexander.  I bought The Gym Nasty Boy's trading card and they signed it for me as well.

"The Beast King" FTM defeated Holden Albright

"MVP" Michael Von Payton was scheduled to wrestler FTM but was unable to attend.  I wasn't familiar with either of these competitors but they had a decent stiff big guys match.  FTM got the win with ape shit.

Fatal Four Way: The Blade defeated Alex Zayne, Blake Christian, & Kevin Blanchard

This was a wild and crazy match and I loved it.  Lots of high flying by Zayne and Christian.  At one point Blade was bent at the waist and Zayne hit a shooting star knee drop on Blade's back.  Blade got the win after hitting Zayne with a standing superplex off the top rope and a jump spinning tombstone piledriver.

Tag Team Champions: Matt Angel & Kobe Durst defeated EYFBO: Santana & Ortiz and Tabarnak de Team: Thomas Dubois & Mathieu St. Jacques

What a way to end the night! Way too much action for me to describe just go and watch this match.  Tabarnak de Team is one of my favorite tag teams on the planet right now.  We got them in Limitless Wrestling for three matches in 2017 but visa issues are keeping them out of the States right now.  I have no doubt that someone will be signing them sooner than later, I'm hoping AEW.

A lot of action in and out of the ring.  At one point EYFBO & TDT were out of the ring and Durst and Angel did something I've never seen before.  One held the other in the backpack position and then they both dove through the ropes, it was friggin cool as hell!

They broke some doors and a table and fought around the building.  In the end the champs retained the title after putting Ortiz through a door that propped up on chairs.

Post match EYFBO cut a promo saying goodbye for now, their history wrestling for C*4 and put over TDT as being one of the best tag teams.  They also put over Durst & Angel.

Before the show started I was chatting with a fellow fan, turns out he's the owner of Inter Species Wrestling Mike Rotch.  Really cool guy who I chatted with during intermission and after the show.  He helped out getting me a chance to talk to TDT and get a photo with them.  Limitless Wrestling had made trading cards of TDT and I had two, I had a third one coming in the mail but I didn't get it in time.  So I have them both a card, hopefully I can get mine signed one day.  They were very, very appreciative and we chatted for a few minutes.  Also got a photo with them, they were super cool guys.

Tonight exemplified why I love professional wrestling.  Here I was 400 miles from home in another country at a wrestling show by myself but I wasn't alone.  I chatted with a lot of fellow fans as we all watched a kick ass show together.  C*4 Wrestling was cool a shit too.  I messaged them before the show and they held a ticket for me at the door and after the show was over messaged me asking if I had a good time.

If you ever get a chance to go to a C*4 show don't hesitate.  They have shows coming up on October 11th and November 29, 2019.

Signed Trading Cards: Tony Garea, Danny Davis, & Pat Patterson

This post we look at a few cards that I got signed both through the mail success and with help from my buddy Mikey getting cards signed at events he attended.

Tony Garea

I got these cards through the mail direct from Mr. Garea.  I mailed them on April 29, 2019 and got them back August 19, 2019.  The card on the left is from the 1982 Wrestling All Stars Series B and the card on the right is from the 1985 WWF O-Pee-Chee Series II.  I love Mr. Garea's signature and both cards are in pristine shape.

Danny Davis

My buddy Mikey got these cards signed for me on August 18, 2019 at Zero 1 USA Northeast's debut event in Gardner, Massachusetts.  Davis is most known for his time as the evil referee turned wrestler in the WWF from 1987 - 1989.  Prior to that he wrestled under a mas as Mr. X from 1984 - 1986.  In total he refereed for the WWF from 1981 -1995.

The card on the left is from the 1987 WWF Topps set and the card on the right is from the 2016 WWE Topps card set.

Pat Patterson

My buddy Mikey got these cards signed for me on May 18, 2019 in Hartford, Connecticut.  Mr. Patterson made an appearance at Wal-Mart promoting the Wal-Mart exclusive Mattel action figure which you had to buy go get an autograph.

Independent Title Changes I've Seen

Previously I did a post about the Title Changes That I Have Seen Live and later More Title Changes That I Have Seen Live where I focused in WWE, WCW, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.  So for fun I decided to do one on the independent shows I've been to.  I keep a record of all the wrestling shows that I've attended and for Indy shows I have about 95% of those.  I didn't start keeping track straight away.

March 13, 1998 Middle School, Bath, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

The Power Twins: Dave & Dean defeated The Pascagoula ShipBuilders: Tony DeVito & Mike Bell to win the vacant EWA Tag Team Championships.

The story line was that DeVito and Bell threw the belts in the Kennebec River after not winning them.  This was done to explain why they didn't have physical championships.  Also this was the only match that Bell & DeVito used this tag team name in.  Pascagoula, Mississippi is where Ingalls Shipbuilding is located.  They are a direct competitor to Bath Iron Works, so cheap heat!

April 18, 1998 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

Kidd USA defeated Light Heavyweight Champion: "Sports Illustrated Legend" Robbie Ellis to win the Championship

Initially I thought this match would be a passing of the torch considering Robbie's age at the time of the match.  Little did I know that I would be seeing Mr. Ellis in the ring for more than 10 more years.

Women's Champion: Jamie West defeated Women's Intercontinental Champion: Nasty Sherri to unify the titles.

It's hard to count this as an actual unification match, both ladies had belts that they came into the promotion with. They were just declared champions and then quickly unified the belts.  Didn't make much sense.

June 6, 1998 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

Light Heavyweight Champion: Kidd USA defeated Latin-American Light Heavyweight Champion: El' Mascarado to unify the championships.

Same as the unification of the women's titles, not making much sense to declare the titles just to unify them a short time later.

August 8, 1998 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

No-DQ Match: Master Sandy defeated Heavyweight Champion: "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas to win the championship.  About a dozen guys jumped  Tony before the bell and busted him open, a short time after the match officially started Sandy pinned Atlas to win the title.  This match got a full page in Pro Wrestling Illustrated after.  It was a significant moment in wrestling history for a Women to win what is thought traditionally as a man's championship.

March 6, 1999 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

"Centerfold" Steve Ramsey defeated Light Heavyweight Champion: "Latin Fury" Luis Ortiz to win the championship.

Ortiz didn't actually defeated Kidd USA to win the title, USA no showed the event and Ortiz was awarded the title although a fictitious title change was announced the day of the show.

June 5, 1999 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

Alexander Worthington the 3rd w/ Dominic defeated Light Heavyweight Champion "Centerfold" Steve Ramsey w/ Precious Lucy to win the championship.

Damon D'Archangelo defeated Kidd USA in win the Hardcore Championship in the tournament final.

This was a very long Television taping where several weeks of shows were filmed including the entire Hardcore Championship tournament.

July 24, 1999 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

Kentaro-San defeated Heavyweight Champion: Master Sandy w/ Dave Vicious to win the championship.

This was a screw job, EWA Vice President Dan Mason was the special referee and after Kentaro-San threw salt into Sandy's eyes she attacked Mason who then awarded the title to Kentaro who turned out to be Josh Shea the heel commentator and not an actual wrestler.

September 26, 1999 The Armory, Lewiston, ME

"Delicious" Dave Vicious defeated Heavyweight Champion: Josh Shea to win the title.

This was a massive squash match with Shea doing a stretcher job

Limitless Wrestling at the Portland Expo live report 9/6/2019

Friday night September 6, 2019 Limitless Wrestling presented their 4th Anniversary show Know Your Enemy emanating from the historic Portland Expo!  I was so excited to have front row for this show because this is one of the most historic buildings for wrestling in Maine.

Built in 1914 it is the second oldest arena in continuous operation in the United States.  On March 5, 1929 World Heavyweight Champion Gus Sonnenberg defeated Ned McGuire in two straight falls.  On April 2, 1945 Leo Numa defeated Manuel Cortez by disqualification when referee Babe Ruth called for the bell.

The first time I can find that the WWWF ran at the Expo was July 19, 1966 with King Curtis Iaukea defeating Johnny Valentine in the main event.  In his book Bob Backlund talks about wrestling then WWF Champion "Superstar" Billy Graham to a blood double count-out on December 6, 1977.   For over 11 years the WWWF/WWF ran month shows at the venue.  In 1978 the WWF would move to the newly opened and larger Cumberland County Civic Center, now Cross Insurance Arena.  My dad went to the matches here regularly and saw the legends like Graham, Backlund, Putksi, Andre the Giant and others.

I myself have only attended one wrestling show at the Expo, which was the last wrestling show the venue hosted.  March 16, 2003 Maine Event Wrestling featuring Robbie Ellis, X-Pac, Brian Christopher, Raven, Mike Quackenbush vs. Reckless Youth in a 2 out of 3 falls masterpiece and The Fabulous Moolah and The Great Mae Young in tag team action against Don Montoya & Towel Boy Adams.  I sat in the bleachers on this night.

Alex and my son Canaan headed down to the expo together.  I was shocked at the length of the line when I got to the door.  They had to broken down to VIP, Front Row & Floor GA, and bleacher GA.  I loved the set up and the Limitless Wrestling ring skirt, it just look so good.  I also liked that there was plenty of room for the wrestlers merchandise tables away from the seating.

I picked up a few packs of the Limitless Wrestling trading cards and in total managed to get five cards signed.  I'll post about them another day.  I didn't take many pictures of the show because I just wanted to watch the wrestling.  Not to mention I knew the pictures weren't going to come out well because of the lighting and that I don't bring my camera with me.  These photos are courtesy of @wrestlechick207 on the twitter.

Ace Romero pinned Dan Maff

This was a hell of a fight and what a great way to open the show.  It got the crowd to their feet for the entire contest and these guys beat the hell out of each other.  Maff got Romero in a torture rack position and gave him a burning hammer right on the top of Ace's head!  It was sick, in a good way!  Ace the pin after a monster clothesline.  I hope we see Maff back in a Limitless Wrestling sooner than later.

Christian Casanova pinned Leyla Hirsch

AR Fox was supposed to be Casanova's opponent but he simply no showed.  Hirsch was supposed to be in the scramble match but I was glad to see her in this match instead.  It was a great match, I felt that Hirsch held control for the majority of it but she fell victim to Casanova's scissors kick.

The New Hart Foundation: Teddy Hart & Davey Boy Smith Jr. defeated The Work Horsemen: James Drake & Anthony Henry

This match lived up the the hype that I had built in my mind.  First off I love Hart's and Smith's entrance theme, it's just a great tune.  This match was basically a tornado match with action in the ring and a lot on the floor.  We were treated to several amazing moonsaults by Teddy.  I don't how he and 2 Cold Scorpio manage to just float through the air like they do.  It's amazing!

The Foundation managed to isolate Henry in the ring and Smith got the pin winning the match for his team.  After the match Hart cut one of his standard promo's with Smith chiming in that Limitless was a great audience.

Drake and Henry squabbled after the match with Drake being upset with Henry over the loss.  Henry slapped Drake before leaving the ringside area.

Kevin Blackwood pinned JT Dunn

I was excited about this match.  It seemed fitting that they face off after Blackwood eliminated Dunn from the vacation cup last month.  This was good match with Blackwood getting the quick roll up pin on Dunn which popped the crowd.  Dunn was quite hated by the fans tonight.

Maine State Street Fight: Maine State Posse: Aiden Aggro & Danger Kid defeated Alexander Lee & Brandon Kirk with Joey Eastman

Holy shit!  This one needed to be seen to believed.  They used trash cans, thumbtacks, a door, a barbed wire wrapped door, a lobster pot, and more.  It was brutal with action both inside and outside the ring.  Kirk has his tongue stapled to the top turnbuckle, nasty.  Also Lee handcuffed Danger Kid's earlobe to the bottom rope, Kid has big gauges that he removes before the match, nastier! Kirk was busted open early in the contest and then later when he took the lobster pot to the head it really tore him open bad.

This essentially eliminated Kirk from the match leaving Lee to be double teamed by MSP.  They handcuffed Lee and powerbombed him on the barbed wire door.  They then crushed him on the lobster pot for the three count.  MSP may have won this match but I feel the war is far from over.

The Butcher & The Blade defeated "Filthy" Tom Lawlor & "Dirty Daddy" Chris Dickinson

This was the first match back from intermission and sadly I think the crowd was still spent from the Street fight.  That or maybe these teams just didn't mesh tonight.  I felt like things were a bit off.  For me though the coolest moment in the match is when Lawlor gave The Butcher an airplane spin!  It was a good one too.

Finish saw Butcher pin Lawlor

DL Hurt defeated Jody Threat, Jon Silver, Harlow O'Hara, & Puf

This was a great match!  As will all scrambles we got action both in and outside the ring.  Jody Threat even skateboarded in some offense.  She dished out a head scissors and a spear before eating a superkick.  Hurst picked up the win with a dominator type move on Threat.

Hair vs. Career: Kris Statlander & Ashley Vox defeated Jeremy Leary & Skylar

In this match it was Stat's career and Leary's hair on the line.  If you would have told me that Leary was going to lose this match and have his head shaved I would have lost that bet.  The match was great with Leary being a giant asshole the whole contest.  After Statlander pinned him with her finisher the crowd erupted!  They started cutting his hair in the ring and then at ringside Bradford finished the job.  It was an awesome moment.

Retro AG defeated Limitless Wrestling World Champion: MJF

This was a very anticipated match and the perfect finish to the Limitless Wrestling four year anniversary event.  About two minutes into the match MJF hit Greene with a deliberate low blow for which the referee called for the bell.

Randy Carver, Limitless owner, restarted the match making it no DQ.  The match quickly went to the floor and around ringside.  This match was not as crazy as the street fight but they didn't their fair share of damage to each other.

Finish came right in the center of the ring after a step up tomikaze by Greene on MJF.  Biggest pop of the night the referee hit the three count.  Every person in the building was on their feet!  We all wanted this bad for AG.

Post match MJF shook AG's hand and quickly raised his arm before exiting to the back.  I'm not sure who the next opponent for AG is going to be.  I'd like to see him square off with someone I haven't seen him wrestle in Limitless yet like Kevin Blackwood.
