Independent Title Changes I've Seen

Previously I did a post about the Title Changes That I Have Seen Live and later More Title Changes That I Have Seen Live where I focused in WWE, WCW, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.  So for fun I decided to do one on the independent shows I've been to.  I keep a record of all the wrestling shows that I've attended and for Indy shows I have about 95% of those.  I didn't start keeping track straight away.

March 13, 1998 Middle School, Bath, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

The Power Twins: Dave & Dean defeated The Pascagoula ShipBuilders: Tony DeVito & Mike Bell to win the vacant EWA Tag Team Championships.

The story line was that DeVito and Bell threw the belts in the Kennebec River after not winning them.  This was done to explain why they didn't have physical championships.  Also this was the only match that Bell & DeVito used this tag team name in.  Pascagoula, Mississippi is where Ingalls Shipbuilding is located.  They are a direct competitor to Bath Iron Works, so cheap heat!

Kidd USA defeated Light Heavyweight Champion: "Sports Illustrated Legend" Robbie Ellis to win the Championship

Initially I thought this match would be a passing of the torch considering Robbie's age at the time of the match.  Little did I know that I would be seeing Mr. Ellis in the ring for more than 10 more years.

Women's Champion: Jamie West defeated Women's Intercontinental Champion: Nasty Sherri to unify the titles.

It's hard to count this as an actual unification match, both ladies had belts that they came into the promotion with. They were just declared champions and then quickly unified the belts.  Didn't make much sense.

June 6, 1998 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

Light Heavyweight Champion: Kidd USA defeated Latin-American Light Heavyweight Champion: El' Mascarado to unify the championships.

Same as the unification of the women's titles, not making much sense to declare the titles just to unify them a short time later.

August 8, 1998 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

No-DQ Match: Master Sandy defeated Heavyweight Champion: "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas to win the championship.  About a dozen guys jumped  Tony before the bell and busted him open, a short time after the match officially started Sandy pinned Atlas to win the title.  This match got a full page in Pro Wrestling Illustrated after.  It was a significant moment in wrestling history for a Women to win what is thought traditionally as a man's championship.

March 6, 1999 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

"Centerfold" Steve Ramsey defeated Light Heavyweight Champion: "Latin Fury" Luis Ortiz to win the championship.

Ortiz didn't actually defeated Kidd USA to win the title, USA no showed the event and Ortiz was awarded the title although a fictitious title change was announced the day of the show.

June 5, 1999 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

Alexander Worthington the 3rd w/ Dominic defeated Light Heavyweight Champion "Centerfold" Steve Ramsey w/ Precious Lucy to win the championship.

July 24, 1999 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
Eastern Wrestling Alliance

Kentaro-San defeated Heavyweight Champion: Master Sandy w/ Dave Vicious to win the championship.

This was a screw job, EWA Vice President Dan Mason was the special referee and after Kentaro-San threw salt into Sandy's eyes she attacked Mason who then awarded the title to Kentaro who turned out to be Josh Shea the heel commentator and not an actual wrestler.

September 26, 1999 The Armory, Lewiston, ME
