The Wrestling Collector Store

Saturday September 26th I was in Parsippany, New Jersey for the 2026 Atlantic APCO Conference, which runs from the 27th to 30th, however my team and I drove won to the conference from Maine, and with the approaching Nor'easter we headed down on Friday to avoid the storm.

That left me with all day Saturday to do some exploring, and that I did.  My team member Jessica and I first went to New Jersey Horror Con because Betsy Baker and Theresa Tilly, two of the 3 ladies of the Evil Dead movie were supposed to be there, however after paying admission, found out one was sick so they both cancelled.  As we already paid we spent some time taking in the vendors and I picked up a couple small things.  There were a lot of celebrities there, but no one I wanted the meet that I hadn't met before.

We then headed north to Stockholm, New Jersey and The Wrestling Collector!  I had first learned about it on Facebook, and a couple months back Matt Cardona and Brian Meyers of the Major Figures Podcast filmed a vlog at the store for their YouTube page.

It's not a huge store but it is jammed with wrestling collectibles and memorabilia.  The owner of the store, Tommy Ferrero, is also the promoter for the ISPW: Independent Superstars of Pro Wrestling promotion, which has been running shows in 1998.  He was not there as his mother was running the shop.

There is stuff stacked all over the place, when you walk in on the right side he has a small museum display of ring worm memorabilia.  This is also where everything that is signed if located.  Figures, posters, 8 x 10's and anything else with a signature.

To the left of the entrance is a side room with magazine, programs, VHS, DVD's, wrestling figures, books and more.  I would say 75% of what was in the shop was WWF / WWE, which makes sense as we are right in the heart of the WWF's territory.

I was in there for almost an hour and a half looking through everything.  I did picked out a few things that I bought, I tried to be reasonable because there was so much stuff I would have liked to pick up, but it would be just buying stuff to buy stuff.

I felt some of the prices were reasonable and others not so much, but that's just my opinion.  All VHS were $15, all DVD's were $10, Magazines and Programs were $10 or as marked, all books were $20, and loose figures were anything from $5 to $20 depending on the figure.  In package were as marked, and then there was a bunch of stuff not marked and she had to call him to ask what he wanted.

This right here I was extremely tempted to buy, it was The Wrestling Album, and when I was 6 years old my Dad got me this exact thing for Christmas.  It was unique because the packaging was record album size but for a cassette tape.  They were asking $60, and I almost pulled the trigger on it.

What I think is unique about the program was the paper insert inside.  WWF used to print a generic program to use at multiple venues and shows, and they would include a paper insert with the date, location, and card for the night.  This particular insert was for Madison Square Garden the night Bob Backlund lost the WWF Championship to Diesel.

I had this video game for the original Nintendo, this copy was original sealed.  I have no idea what they were asking for it.

There was so many programs and posters for Madison Square Garden and the New York and New Jersey area.  I looked as all the MSG programs and I decided if they had one with someone on the cover that I could get signed I would pick it up, sadly everyone featured had passed away.

After much deliberation this is what I decided to pick up:

My favorite wrestling to go back and watch is Jim Crockett Promotions 1983 - 1988, to me it's just the best!  This VHS is the 1988 Great American Bash PPV from July 10, 1988 in Baltimore.  This would be the last PPV under the Jim Crockett Promotions banner and the next PPV Starrcade was after the sale to Ted Turner.  I also have the program to this event signed by Ric Flair and Lex Luger.

First is a WWF program from featuring Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda that I feel confident that I can get signed.  The second is a special look at "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas, as he lives in Maine and I see him several times a year I know I will get this signed.  The Tony Atlas program had the paper insert for September 21, 1981 at Madison Square Garden.

Along with the Tony Atlas program was this Poster, which is in rough shape, but is pretty cool.  I'll get Tony to sign this as well.  The last photo is for size reference on the poster.

I had a pretty awesome time at The Wrestling Collector store.  I coupe things I do which I had picked up, and I just might have time to scoot back up before I head home on Wednesday.

You can read all about my trip to New Jersey for the 2026 Atlantic APCO Conference here.

Here is the video from Major Figures Podcast of their tour of the shop.

Re-Post: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan WWE DVD Review

Re-Posted from my original blog as I am removing all wrestling references off of it making it a family blog.

I recently watched the Bobby “The Brain” Heenan DVD.  I was very excited to pick it up as Heenan is arguably the greatest manager of all time.  Over the last few years the WWE’s documentaries have been outstanding.  No matter the topic WWE has always produced a first class documentary.

I expected the same for The Brain, instead though, we get a paltry 50 minutes that was no where near good enough.  Probably because of his throat cancer, but The Brain wasn’t even interview for it.

His entire career was covered, but in very quick fashion.  They glazed over his AWA, WCW, and wrestling career primarily focusing on his WWE time.  Even that though, was skimmed over.  It almost comes off as half-assed compared to what the WWE has become known for.

The extras are decent, promos, interviews, matches, and him as a color commentator.  I would have liked to see some more interactions with Gorilla Monsoon.

All in all it was rather disappointing.

Re-Post: DVD Review WWE Top 50 Superstars of All Time

Re-Posted from my original blog as I am removing all wrestling references off of it making it a family blog.

Hosted by Todd Grisham, WWE’s 50 Greatest Superstars is an excellent countdown documentary of the 50 greatest stars as decided by the current superstars in the WWE.

Each wrestler featured is highlighted in a 2.5 – 3 minute bio-clip featuring highlights of great moments as well as comments both old and newly recorded by fellow superstars.  The bio-clips for the top 5 were a couple minutes longer.  Most of the bio-clips are extremely emotional and can make you laugh, smile, and at times cry.

One of my favorite bio-clips is of Bruno Sammartino for the comments from Vince J McMahon and the old comments from Bruno himself.  I would truly love WWE to put out some documentaries on the 60’s & 70’s with the old footage.

William Regal, Arn Anderson (both should have their own DVD’s), and Matt Striker provide some of the best comments on almost every superstar.  Other’s that comment frequently are the Miz, JJ Dillon, John Cena, Jerry Lawler & Billy Kidman.  There are many, many more that comment as well.

As far as placement on the list, I don’t agree with Rey Mysterio being in the top 10, and am appalled that Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard were left off the list.

Number 1 on the list is Shawn Michaels, and he deserves it, Chris Jericho sums it up best with, “He steals the show at every event that he is on, because he’s Shawn Michaels and that’s what he does.”

The Extra’s on this 3 DVD set are amazing as they cover a broad spectrum of time including:

NWA World Championship: Lou Thesz vs. Argentina Rocca
Buffalo, NY

Women’s Champion: The Fabulous Moolah vs. Susan Green
Madison Square Garden – June 16, 1975

Boxing Match: Gorilla Monsoon vs. Andre The Giant
Puerto Rico – September 23, 1977

AWA Heavyweight Championship Match: Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Curt Hennig
August 13, 1988

WWE Championship: “Nature Boy” Ric Flair vs. Bret “Hit Man” Hart
Saskatoon, Canada – October 12, 1992

Undertaker, Ken, Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Triple H, Edge & Chritian             RAW – April 23, 2001

Eddie Guerrero vs. Big Show
Smackdown! – April 15, 2004

World Heavyweight Championship: Edge vs. The Undertatker
WrestleMania XXIV – March 30, 2008

Plus many, many more matches, 21 in all.

Definitely a great DVD to add to the collection!

Seven Levels of Hate

This outstanding documentary by Adam Pearce focuses on the feud between himself and Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana over the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and gives us a look behind the scenes at a turbulent time for the National Wrestling Alliance.

As with all my DVD reviews I’m not going to give away all the fine details for I fully believe you need to watch it for yourself, but I will summarize the highlights.

The documentary features extensive sit down interviews with “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, and Championship Wrestling from Hollywood promoter David Marquez.  It also features from comments from:
Robert Trobich – former NWA executive
Bill Behrens – former NWA executive
Fred Rubenstein – former NWA executive
Stu Stone – Manager The Family Stone, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood
Rick Knox – referee, CWH, PWG, and more
Angelo Trinidad – Ring Announcer CWH
Sheldon Goldberg – Promoter New England Championship Wrestling
Mick Karch & Ed Hellier – Promoters for Steel Domain Wrestling
Chris Couch – Promoter Metro Pro Wrestling
Jeff Manning – Promoter West Coast Wrestling Connection
Ben Gilbert – Promoter Warzone Wrestling, Australia
Dan Murphy – writer Pro Wrestling Illustrated
And others

In the beginning we learn that Colt Cabana and Adam Pearce grew up 17 miles away from each other near Chicago and have known of each other since their high school years.  Later they trained together at Steel  Domain and their careers crisscrossed each other since then.

Their feud began in the summer of 2010 at Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and culminated on March 6, 2011 with Colt Cabana winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and a fantastic match up.

Then in a regrettable move, the NWA had Cabana lose the belt cold to The Sheik.  Pearce, Cabana, and other discuss why this happened and why they thought it was a mistake.   I’ve read online that some feel the Sheik bought his title reign then forgot that wrestling was a work and then didn’t want to lose it.  Ultimately the NWA stripped the Sheik of the championship and wanted to put the title back on Adam Pearce and essentially have Cabana and Pearce do their feud again.

Pearce only agreed if Cabana was to get the title for a year as he felt Cabana was the man who was perfect to carry the company based on his following and fan base.  Initially Cabana was hesitant to agree to this because of what happened previously, but in the end he agreed.

Their feud began anew this time with then teaming together for a time before Pearce turned on Cabana which led to their match on April 8, 2012 in Glendale, CA at Championship Wrestling from Hollywood where Cabana recaptured the NWA World Championship in another fantastic match.

The rematch became the best of seven series entitled “7 Levels of Hate” with Adam Pearce vowing that he would leave the NWA forever if he didn’t best Cabana in the series.

As a wrestling fan when I first heard about this I was so excited.  This series between two of the best wrestlers in wrestling today for the coveted NWA World Heavyweight Championship was going to be nothing short of awesome, and it truly was!

Stage 1 May 13, 2012 First Blood Match, NWA Wrestling From Hollywood, Glendale, CA
                Winner: Colt Cabana

Stage 2 June 8, 2012 Boston Street Fight, New England Championship Wrestling, Bridgewater, MA
                Winner: Colt Cabana

Stage 3 July 7, 2012 I Quit Match, Steel Domain Wrestling, Hopkins, MN
                Winner Colt Cabana

Stage 4 July 21, 2012 Best 2 out of 3 Falls Match, Metro Pro Wrestling, Kansas City, KS
Winner: Adam Pearce – NEW CHAMPION

Stage 5 August 18, 2012 Dog Collar Match, NECW Bridgewater, MA
                Winner: Adam Pearce

Stage 6 September 30, 2012 Texas Death Match, West Coast Wrestling Connection, Salem, OR
                Winner: Adam Pearce

Stage 7 October 27, 2012 Steel Cage Match, NWA Warzone Wrestling, Berwick, Victoria, Australia
                Winner: Colt Cabana

Stage 6 was set to take place on August 4, 2012 at NWA Legends Fan Fest in Charlotte, North Carolina and needed to be changed.  Stage 7 was to conclude at NWA Wrestling From Hollywood in Glendale, CA however the NWA had other things in mind.

Behinds to scenes in the NWA at this time it was quite turbulent.  In January of 2012 R. Bruce Tharpe filed a lawsuit against Rob Trobich and Pro Wrestling Organization LLC siting an insurance fraud claim.  For more details check out Mike Johnson’s article at PWInsider.

During the series the lawsuit was settled with Tharpe gaining ownership of the NWA and all its entities.  They also switched the National Wrestling Alliance from having shareholding members to a promoters paying licensing fees to use the NWA name.

You’ll hear about how the new regime of the NWA did not want Colt Cabana to represent them as Champion, how they didn’t want to final match to take place at Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, how they tried to get Pearce to drop the title before the final match, and ultimately why the NWA announced that they would not be sanctioning the title match in the final stage of the “7 Levels of Hate.”  Witness the post-match fallout as Cabana and Pearce renounce the NWA leaving the belt in the ring as both men walk out.  It’s truly an amazing turn of events.

This is one of the finest wrestling documentaries I have ever watched and anyone who is a fan of not on the NWA but wrestling in general needs to watch it.

This two disc set features the over 2 hour documentary, all 7 matches, the historic series aftermath, and backstage interviews and extras.  It is completely sold out on the official website www.sevenlevelsofhate.com.

I also cannot find it on the internet anywhere.  So if you locate this DVD don’t hesitate to buy it as you will not regret it!
