IWE Live Report 2/9/2018 featuring Shane Douglas

On Friday February 9th Canaan, Alex, and I met Roy, Mikey, & Phil in Fairfield at the Community Center to take in a night IWE: Independent Wrestling Entertainment featuring "The Franchise" Shane Douglas.

This was first IWE show since last July when Teddy Hart was on the card.  I really like the Fairfield Community Center as a venue.  I've been attending matches here since 2004 and tonight marks my 53rd show at this building.

This is my third time seeing Douglas live and he is always so nice and approachable to talk to.  He is very passionate and opinionated about the sport of professional wrestling.  This was my first time getting my picture taken with him.

I asked him how he felt about fans still chanting E-C-W even thought the promotion shut down 17 years ago.  He responded that he's honored that something he participated in has had such a longing effect on the wrestling.  But also pointed that out as a bad thing that nothing else has had such an impact on wrestling to overshadow it. 

In Ring: "Shatterproof" Derek Shorey cut a promo stating that Todd Harris was not in the building and the promoted Livewire Championship match would not be taking place.  So he laid out and open challenge that was answered by the Middlesex Express.  Eventually Strange came out evening up the odds and making it a tag team match.

This was a great match.  What I like about the Middlesex Express is that they are an established tag team with matching gear and a tag team name.  Steven Broad has an 80's throwback look with a killer mustache and dynamite hair.

Shorey has improved tremendously since the last time I saw him.  He has a good look and moves around the ring very well.  He gets some impressive air with his swanton and other high flying maneuvers.
 

Ian Griffin with Alex Cain & Sara D'Errico defeated Tommy Lane with a splash mountain

I haven't seen Griffin in a couple years so it was nice to see him again.  I've always enjoyed his in ring work.  This was pretty much a long squash match the Lane getting very little offense in and getting pinned clean in the center. 

"The Franchise" Shane Douglas pinned Maine State Champion: "Big Moxie" Matt Mahoney with a school boy in a non-title match

Surprised this was on third, figured this would close the show.  A basic but good match, Douglas cut a pre-match promo stating lets give them a wrestling match.  Then after a few minutes of Mahoney getting the upper hand on Douglas he resorted to nefarious means.

The match spilled to the floor and Douglas had is head comically rammed into the canvas several times in rapid succession.  After a few more minutes of action Douglas rolled up Mahoney with a school boy for the pin.

We didn't get a belly to belly suplex, but it was a fun match and it was great to see Douglas wrestle live in such an intimate setting.

Post Match: Douglas cut an impassioned promo about pro wrestling, what it means to him and the fans.  He also took a couple shots at Vince McMahon and the WWE.  Mahoney stated what an honor this was for him and that he's been nervous all week.  Douglas then took a moment to honor is fallen comrades in the Triple Threat by introducing Bam Bam Bigelow and Chris Candido. 

Anyweight Champion: Jimmy Limits pinned Rob Marsh with Adam Ricker & Chad Epic after a Mafia Kick in an open challenge match

This was an open challenge that was answered by the tag team champions.  Epic teased not knowing who was going to accept the challenge.  The fans chanted for Marsh and we got who we wanted.

This match was ok.  I've seen both of these guys put on some decent matches and I'm a huge fan of Rob Marsh but they just didn't seem to mesh tonight. 

Mason X pinned Kenny Roberts with a chokeslam

Best looking Mason X so far and Kenny Roberts is very charismatic.  Mason is supposed to be a monster killer, but the match went on too long in my opinion.  Some good moments but should have been much shorter.

Ian Griffin with Alex Cain & Sara D'Errico pinned "Alpha Dog" Jason Rumble after hitting with a foreign object

Alex Cain was supposed to compete in this match but claimed a knee injury would prevent him from doing so so we got our second dose of Ian Griffin for the evening.

I was surprised to see Griffin get two wins in the same night.  After the match Rumble got his hands on the object then sent the fans home happy by laying out Griffin and dancing.

It was a fun night of wrestling because I got to see my friends and quite frankly any night at wrestling is a great night. 

The next time IWE returns to the Fairfield Community Center is on March 9th featuring a Trios Tag Team Tournament.

Roy's Review: IWE 10th Anniversary 1/13/2018 Brewer, Maine

Here is my review of IWE's 10 Year Anniversary Tour Night 2 in Brewer, Maine on January 13, 2018

Match 1: John Steele defeated Blockkishi

This was awful. Roadblock did give Gleitz a stinkface which was pretty funny.

In Ring: The Era of Violence come out with Chad Epic and Steven Lust. Bill Vaux says that he has post concussion syndrome and can't wrestle but IWE did allow for a replacement. Out comes Adam Ricker carrying a beaten up Elite Terrell.

Match 2: Tag Team Champions: Rob Marsh and Adam Ricker w/Bill Vaux, Steven Lust & Chad Epic defeated Angel Cross to retain

Marsh and Ricker dominated most of the match. Chad Epic did get himself thrown out but it didn't matter because his team won after a World's Strongest Slam then a Frog Splash from Marsh.

Match 3: Ricky Williams defeated Malik Logan

Ricky Williams looked good in this match. Decent match that saw Williams get the win after a triple german suplex then a flying headbutt.

In Ring: Sonny Roselli and John Bryer come out for the Circle of Champions presentations. First up was Alexander Lee. He said that he has done a lot of stupid things in his 14 year wrestling career but he still enjoys doing it. Next was Johnny Primer. He talked about all of his different gimmicks then called in Mikey Primer and they hugged. Last was Eric Johnson. He talked about starting IWE and how he wouldn't be Eric Johnson without the fans. He then put Bomb and Sonny on the spot about him coming back and the crowd freaked out. Eric left, then the lights went out. The Mutts with Sarah D'Arrico and August Leon came out. Sarah says that they are back and wishes everyone a happy 10 year anniversary. Ian Griffin then calls Bomb and Sonny the drunks. Alex Caine gets really pissed and freaks out saying they ruled the tag team division but were given a kick in the ass on the way out the door. August Leon then says that they are basically going to take over IWE.

Match 4: Derek Shorey defeated Steven Lust

This match didn't really do it for me but it was good to see Shorey get a win.

Match 5: Big Moxie defeated Maine State Champion Adam Ricker in a Last Man Standing Match to win the title

Moxie pretty much dominated this match. Ricker did get a brief advantage when Rob Marsh, Bill Vaux and Steven Lust came out allowing him to get a bat out from under the ring, but The Street, Derek Shorey and Ricky Williams came out and ran them off. Moxie then got the bat and hit Ricker multiple times for the win.

Match 6: Todd Harris w/Malik Logan defeated Kalvin Strange to win the Live Wire Championship

Great match that the crowd was super into. Strange worked the arm throughout the match and Harris did a great job of sellling it. Harris got the win after an RKO then a Dragon Sleeper. Hopefully this match gets released because it was really good.

In Ring: Todd Harris says that he lost his dad recently but his dad was watching him win tonight. He then made fun of the crowd and rubbed in his victory.

In Ring: Captain comes out and talks about the IWE training school. He then brings out the current trainees. Mason X comes out and destroys them until Mikey Primer makes the save.

Match 7: Mason X defeated Mikey Primer

This was a massive squash. I'm liking the new Mason X

Match 8: Triple Threat: Danger Kid defeated IWE Champion Aidan Aggro & Alexander Lee with Johnny Primer as Special Referee to win the title

Great match that spilled to the floor early. These guys really beat the hell out of each other. Midway through Primer got knocked down from a kick. Gleitz came out but Primer got back up and gave him a cutter. In the end Danger Kid hit a Swanton Bomb on Lee while he was pinning Aggro for the win.

In Ring: MSP makes up and help Danger Kid celebrate his win, when The Mutts come out. They stare down MSP then the 2 teams start yelling at each other. Alexander Lee spit on Alex Caine then shortly after there was a massive brawl that spilled into the crowd. A bunch of guys came from the back to break it up and a trainee got knocked out. Rob Marsh also got really pissed and wanted to fight The Mutts. This didn't seem like this was supposed to happen.

Overall this show scored a 34.25 out of 80 for an overall score of 42.81%. The first half was lacking a little bit but the 2nd half more than made up for it with two great title matches and an awesome ending. 

IWE returns to Brewer on Saturday February 10th with "The Franchise" Shane Douglas who will challenge Danger Kid for his newly won IWE Championship

The crowd was a legit 1300 - 1400 people and boy did they LOVE "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan!!

The meet & greet got started a little late, but once it got rolling it went very smooth.

Toro Loco pinned Cameron Matthews with a sick DDT

The Scuffling Hillbillies: Cousin Larry & Uncle Sonny defeated Black Talented Wrestlers: Slyck Wagner Brown & Bobby Ocean with a roll up after Slyck accidentally hit Ocean with a foreign object

Interview with Johnny Fabulous & Mr. TA setting up an Augusta Street Fight vs. "Diamond Back" Jack Maverick later in the evening

Amber w/ Playboy Jimmy James defeated Barbie with a school girl while holding the tights

Extreme Rules: Heavyweight Champion: "The Franchise" Shane Douglas pinned Tommy Dreamer after a while match with a Belly to Belly Suplex. The wrestled all over the civic center, through the crowd, up the stairs, and more. Dreamer exploded several beverages all over Douglas but mostly the crowd. The Delfonzo's ran in causing the distraction which lead to the Belly to Belly, then Douglas declared the new Triple Threat was born. Pre-match Douglas cut a promo in his usually style, Vince sucks, Dixie sucks, I revolutionalzied the business in the 90's.

Intermission time with photo's in the ring with Dreamer & Hacksaw plus everyone came back out around the civic center and signed autographs, took pictures, and what not.

Tag Team Champions: Hot Commodity: Scott Reed & Danny Miles defeated The Delfonzo Brothers: Tony & Bam Bam by disqualification when Bam Bam pulled the ref out of the ring as Scott Reed had Tony pinned for the 3 count

"Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase & Virgil come to the ring and cut a promo. "Playboy" Jimmy James et all come out and challenge Dibiase to a match to which Dibiase replied that he doesn't need to break a sweat on these guys, when you have money you can pay people to do it for you, hahahahahaha. Which lead to:

"Mr. USA" Tony Atlas, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan & Rush defeated "Playboy" Jimmy James, Antoine Roy, & Benny Juxx w/ Amber & Lord Weatherbee when Hacksaw pinned Juxx after his 3 point stance clothesline.

Main Event
Augusta Street Fight: "Diamond Back" Jack Maverick defeated Mr. TA w/ Johnny Fabulous in a wild brawl. These guys brought out the trashcans, cookie sheets, frying pans and cheese graters blooding each other, then battled all around the civic center. The finish came when the camera man, revealing himself to be AJ Mitrano, attacked Jack Maverick laying him out. Which lead to Mick Foley coming out and making the save which allowed Maverick to pin Mr. TA. After Foley applied to mandible claw to Johnny Fabulous.

Mick Foley then told a couple of good stories. First of all, the last time he was in Augusta was in 1996. Sitting in the back of the Arena Dewey was holding his hand over his ears as it was loud. Steve Austin asked Foley, has he being doing that all night? To which Foley replied, yes except for your match when he was holding his nose.

The second was, he was driving through Auburn earlier and saw the Fireside Inn which had a sign and big photo stating, Muhammad Ali stayed here May 25, 1965 after defeating Sonny Liston in Lewiston, Maine, in room 218. So Mick paid the extra $39 so he could stay in the same hotel room as Muhammad Ali. Which means we can now go stay in the say room that Mick Foley & Muhammad Ali slept in.

All in all it was a fun show with a lively crowd. All the wrestlers were very approachable and friendly and everyone, from my point of view, had a great time.
