Signed Trading Cards, Xavier Bell, DL Hurst, Davienne

Back on January 19th I went to the Let's Wrestle Rumble in Orono, Maine, you can read all about it here.  At that show I was able to add three cards to my collection, all three of these were from the Limitless Wrestling set. 

Xavier Bell

From Massachusetts he debuted in late 2014 and at some point trained with Biff Busick, now known at Oney Lorcan in NXT.  I first saw him in 2015 at Limitless Wrestling and I truly enjoy his technique and intensity in the ring.  He took some time off in 2018 but returned to the ring in 2019 at this show.  I hope to see him wrestle more in the future.

Davienne

Also a New England native, Davienne debuted in 2013 after training with Brian Fury.  She has wrestled all over New England and recently became the inaugural Let's Wrestling Champion.

DL Hurst

Trained at the New England Pro Wrestling Academy by Brian Fury he has competed in several New England promotions like Chaotic Wrestling, Limitless Wrestling, and in 2018 was in the Chikara Young Lions Cup.  He was eliminated in the first round.  A injury has kept him out of action for most of 2018.  I look forward to seeing him back in the ring as he's very talented and is definitely a guy you don't want top sleep on if he comes to your area. 

Dynamite Kid

This is a 2016 Leaf Wrestling Signature Series card numbered 9 of 10.  I had tried for years to find a way to get a card signed and just never did.  After I read of his passing I went right on Ebay to buy it before the prices were jacked up on them.  It's the only way I'll ever get a signed Dynamite Kid card, who is one of my all time favorites, and even though I'm glad I have it, it just doesn't mean as much as my other cards.  This is why I don't buy signed cards.  I know others love to collect these, and that's cool, that's just not me and there's nothing wrong with that.

Let's Wrestle Rumble Live Report 1/19/2019

After my son's 13th birthday party we picked up Alex and headed north for an evening professional wrestling in Orono, Maine at the American Legion Hall.  Not even the threat at the biggest snowstorm of the year would deter me from enjoying the Let's Wrestle Rumble!  The winner of the match was declared the first ever Let's Wrestle Champion.

We headed out about 4:30 pm heading north, the storm wouldn't start for a few hours so the drive up wasn't an issue.  We stopped at Chick-Fil-A for dinner, Alex had never been, and as always it was excellent.  We had time after dinner to run into the mall for Canaan to use the Game Stop gift cards that he had gotten that day.  He picked up a cool Zelda case for his switch, a Zelda controller, and the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game.

We got to the venue about 15 minutes before the doors opened, the breezeway was packed so Canaan and I stood outside, it was very cold, below zero with the windchill.  This is a great building for a wrestling show, that last time I had been here was in March 2016 for Limitless Wrestling.  The doors opened 5 minutes early and the show started a few minutes early as well, that always makes me happy.

I had had picked us up front row in advance at only $10 it was well worth it.  General Admission is only $8.  They could up their prices to $15 and $10 and people would still get their money's worth.  It was a big a crowd too over 160 people, considering the pending storm. My buddy Mikey didn't go because of it.  He stayed home and got the XWA Rumble and we messaged each other through out the night.

Roy was there as was Bradford, in fact it was three years ago on January 30, 2016 that I first met Bradford at Limitless Wrestling in this same building to witness Zack Sabre Jr. wrestled Chris Hero.  It was storming that night as well, actually we had a blizzard and the drive home was way worse.

Retro Anthony Greene with the Platinum Hunnies defeated Aiden Aggro

This was the match, other than the rumble match, that I was looking forward to the most.  Both guys are very athletic and are really good in the ring.  Aggro had a different gimmick tonight and it didn't click with me.  Maybe because it's such a huge change from what I'm used to it will take time to adjust, I'm not sure.  He's the man of color, he has Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake type pants and dyed his hair blond.

It was a good match, a lot at the beginning and then they got into it.  Really cool finish with Greene using the ropes for a tornado Tomikaze for the pin.  Post match Greene cut a promo about being the first ever Let's Wrestle Champion and sorry to his Hunnie Ava as she is also in the Rumble.  So gave him two cutters to show him that he needed to worry about her.

Eric Johnson pinned Matt Mahoney

During Mahoney's entrance Johnson jumped him from behind and beat up around the outside of the ring. As both competitors hadn't entered the ring the match hadn't officially started.  Johnson eventually through Mahoney into the ring and at first the referee wasn't going to call for the bell but did so under duress.  Johnson hit a piledriver and pinned Mahoney with a foot on his chest.

Post match Johnson cut a promo that he deserved to be in the Rumble and shouldn't have had to win a match to earn a spot.  So the beating he gave to Mahoney was the home office's fault.

Davienne pinned Channing Thomas

This was a great match!  Lots of chops and terrific back and forth action.  Davienne go the pin with a version of the butterfly suplex.

Maine State Posse: Alexander Lee & DangerKid defeated The Syndicate: BA Tatum & Owen Brody with Murdock

This was a The Syndicate open challenge that was  answered by MSP.  This was also a great match, but I'm not surprised when MSP is involved.  Lee took a beating before making the hot tag to DangerKid who cleared house.  Murdock tried to get involved at one point and got posted for his efforts.  Finish came when DangerKid had Brody up for a Jay-Driller and Lee superkicked him before Kid dropped.

Post match The Syndicate attacked Lee and Kid beating them down until Aggro made the save with a steel chair chasing them away.

Intermission

ClusterJam
Antoine Nicholas defeated Xavier Bell, Vern Vicallo, Cody Blayde, Gene Bauer, & Covey Christ

This was a fun match! I love these 6 way matches that have become a staple of Limitless as a Scramble Match and now here as the ClusterJam.  We got a lot of good action including multiple train wreck dives to the floor.

Scariest moment was when Antoine Nicholas went for a shooting star press on Xavier Bell and had he jumped forward it would have been beautiful but he went straight up and came down on the turnbuckle and ring post before tumbling to the floor.  Jason Worthing got a video of it and on Sunday it was all over my twitter feed.  He was okay, in fact he was right back in the ring straight away pinning Bell with a small package.  Post match Bell gave Nicholas a last ride style powerbomb.

It was great seeing Bell again, I talked to him before the show and he was saying that he hasn't wrestled a match since May 2017, he just hasn't wanted to.  I thought he was great tonight and I hope to see him more in the future.

"Masshole" Mike McCarthy defeated Mike Montero

There is just something about McCarthy I really enjoy him in the ring.  I'm used to seeing Montero in tag team action as part of The Influence.  This was a good match, pace was a bit slow but it worked for these too.  Finish came when McCarthy sunk in a guillotine choke and the referee called for the bell when Montero passed out.

Let's Wrestle Rumble
Davienne won last eliminating Kalvin Strange to win the Let's Wrestling Championship

This was a fantastic rumble match!  I think they did a minute in between entrants and they did a legit minute between each entrant.  The pace of the match was excellent, a no time was there a lull in the action  and there was some great moments through out.

After Aiden Aggro entered in MSP and The Syndicate had stand off and then the six brawled.  This is no doubt going to lead to a six man tag at the next Let's Wrestle show.

Graves got the lights out, lights on entrance with no music, it was cool.  After clearing house he gave Geno Bauer who was on his knees a short DDT, did a nip up and another short DDT to Bauer.  Wicked friggin cool.

After Davienne threw out by Price she threw out Nicholas who landed on Bishop's back who then carried Nicholas to the back.  After Montero entered the match on the opposite side of the venue Bishop was walking towards the ring with Nicholas still on his back.  Bishop eventually dumped him on some chairs, Nicholas made it to the front row and used them like stilts to get back in the ring.

Alexander Lee and Anthony Greene were battling each other and ended up on the ring apron together and Strange just pushed them off.

Post match McCarthy jumped Davienne from behind until they were separated by officials.  It was announced at the next show Davienne would defend her championship against McCarthy.

The drive home was uneventful, the left lane on the interstate was snow covered but the right lane was clear from the vehicles driving on it.  I saw only one vehicle off the road during the drive and it only took about 30 minutes longer than normal.

Let's Wrestle returns March 23rd at the American Legion in Orono featuring Davienne defending the Let's Wrestle Championship against "Masshole" Mike McCarthy.

Roy's Review: Limitless Wrestling "Can We Kick It" April 28, 2017

Here is my review of Limitless Wrestling's Can We Kick It in Portland, Maine on April 28, 2017.

Match 1: Lio Rush defeated Jon Silver

Awesome match and an excellent opener. These guys destroyed each other trading brutal kicks. It seemed a little short but they filled the time they had with a ton of action.
9/10

Match 2: The Maine State Posse: Danger Kid & Aidan Aggro defeated Massage NV: VSK & Dorian Graves,  and Jeremy Leary & Skylar in a Triple Threat Match

Good match that had lots of fast paced action with a little comedy thrown in. Randomly during the match Leary body slammed Chris Barry. Massage NV kept trying to give a massage to Leary and he kept getting pissed. Later in the match Skylar volunteer for a massage but got stomped instead. After the match Danger Kid was really pissed at Leary and Skylar for some reason.

Match 3: Joey Janela defeated Mr. Grim

This was my first time seeing Janela actually wrestle and I was impressed. He had a great match with Mr. Grim. I was a little disappointed I didn't get to see the jumping tombstone but that's okay because the match was really good.

Match 4: Brandon Watts vs. Tyler Nitro w/Mike Gamble

This was a solid match but I kinda expected more. There was a bunch of problems between Nitro and Gamble. Gamble was trying to help Nitro but he didn't want the help. In the end Gamble caused Nitro to lose. After the match they had some words.

Match 5: Donovan Dijak defeated Mikey Webb

Awesome match. The best Mikey Webb singles match I have ever seen. Lots of hard hitting power moves and some ringside brawling as well. Check this out its really good.

Match 6: Ethan Page defeated David Starr

Another good match. These guys fought really hard. The more I see both of these guys, the more they grow on me. I was kind surprised to see Page get the win.
8/10

Match 7: Jay Freddie defeated Chris Dickinson

Awesome match. These guys beat the hell out of each other. Jay Freddie is one of the most underrated guys on the indys right now. This match was really even with both guys answer the others moves. The finish was kinda dumpy only because Barry fucked up the count which really pissed off Dickinson. Check this match out, its really good.

Match 8: Troy Nelson defeated Dick Justice w/Sidney Bakabella

If your into comedy matches, which I'm not, then you might have enjoyed this. I could do without ever seeing Dick Justice again. Almost no wrestling in this one. It really wasn't for me.

Match 9: Xavier Bell defeated Dan Barry, Josh Briggs, Jimmy Lloyd, Alexander Lee, Manny Martinez, Kai Katana and Owen Brody in an 8 Man Scramble Match

This match was really fun because there was action all over the place the entire time. Josh Briggs really impressed me. I hope he comes back. Bell got the win his sick piledriver finisher.

Match 10: Ace Romero defeated Michael Elgin

Great main event. These guys beat the hell out of each other with tons of hard strikes. Romero took everything Elgin had and then some. In end Ace got the win after a Boss Man Slam variation. Check this one out its great.

This show scored 77.5 out of 100 for an overall score of 77.5%. This is one of the best shows I have ever seen live and it may be the best Limitless Wrestling show in its short history. There are 3 matches rated 9/10 and there was only 1 stinker, but that really depends on taste in wrestling. Do yourself a favor and buy this DVD when it comes out. It will be worth every cent.

Roy's Review: Limitless Wrestling 2/25/2017

Here is my review of Limitless Wrestling's Do what you love and fuck the rest.

February 25, 2017 American Legion, Orono, Maine

Match 1: Danny Miles defeated Mike Graca

This match was really kinda average and at points kinda boring. Miles is a good wrestler but I find him painfully boring. This wasn't one of Graca's best matches.

Match 2: Mr. Grim defeated Manny Martinez

Decent match but Martinez is really generic. Grim on the other hand is really good and I would like to see him come back. Grim got the win with a jumping tombstone. After the match he put Martinez in a body bag and carried him to the back.

Match 3: Jeremy Leary & Skylar defeated Scott Wild & Jimmy Limits

Good tag match here. Wild works really well with Leary and Skylar. Limits did well himself and I would like to see him come back. Wild hit a vicious flying knee on Skylar that almost sent her flying out of the ring. After the match both Leary and Skylar attacked referee Chris Berry.

Match 4: Xavier Bell defeated Alexander Lee

There was some good ringside brawling but besides that this match was really kinda average. Bell got the win with a brutal piledriver. Nice to see Bell get the win! - Mike

Match 5: Foxx Vinyer defeated Sebastian Cage and Franco Vargo in a Triple Threat Match

I didn't care for this match and it barely kept my attention. Foxx is good as is Cage but this match would have been way better if Vargo wasn't there and it was a singles match.

Match 6: Tyler Nitro w/Mike Gamble defeated Anthony Bennett

This match was really average. Both guys are good but this match just didn't do it for me and it seemed kinda short. I'm not sure if they were under time constraints or not but if this one had been another 8-10 minutes it may have been better. I was kinda surprised to see Nitro get the win.

Match 7: JT Dunn defeated Sami Callahan

This was excellent! They beat the hell out of each other all over the place, including a piledriver through a table. Seemed a little short but it was great despite that. Check this match out.

Match 8: Ace Romero & Anthony Greene defeated The Maine State Posse: Danger Kid & Aidan Aggro

All four guys worked really hard to put on a good match and they did just that. Lots of brutal chops to to both Aggro and Kid. There were even a few moves I had never seen before, like the backdrop into a sit out powerbomb by Ace and Greene on Aggro. Ace got the win after a sick piledriver from Greene on Kid. After the match they teased dissension between Greene and Ace. The crowd was a little dead for the one and I don't think this got the crowd reaction it deserved.
8.75/10

This show scored a 52.25 out of 80 for an overall score of 65.31%. This was a good show where the two main events really stood out. Dunn and Callahan killed it as did the tag main event.

Roy's Review: Limitless Wrestling Hogwash 11/19/2016

Limitless Wrestling Hogwash

Here are the results from Hogwash last night:

Match 1: Anthony Greene defeated Ethan Page. Good opener as always from Anthony Greene. Before the match Page was great making fun of the crowd. The national anthem guitar guy played Greene's entrance theme. Good back and forth action. Green improves to 10-0.

Match 2: Cam Zagami and Tyler Nitro w/Mike Campbell defeated Da Hoodz (Kris Pyro and Davey Cash). Good match. It was kinda weird that Da Hoodz were face since they have always been heel in Maine. Zagami got the pin after he gave both Pyro and Cash low blows.
6.5/10

Match 3: Big Daddy Beluga defeated Davienne. Before the match Brick Mastone came out and told Davienne that someone else wanted to wrestle her way more than him. He told her to sit in a chair and wait. Out comes Mastone dressed as a male stripper and he proceeded to give her a dance. The match was fun and super entertaining. It was nice to see Mastone and not have people chant baby Rusev.

Match 4: Xavier Bell defeated Adam Booker. This was a decent match but nothing really special. Both guys are good but seem to be missing that something. Nice to see Bell get another win since he is super over.

Match 5: The Maine State Posse (Danger Kid and Aidan Aggro) defeated Jeremy Leary and Skylar. Good match. This is the best way to use Skylar. She shined again just like in Westbrook. Good back and forth action. Many good spots. Keep Leary and Skylar as a team.

Match 6: Mike Graca defeated Rex Lawless, Francis Kip Stevens and Space Monkey in a Fatal 4 Way. Decent 4 way but not a match that really jumps out. Lawless is kinda boring. I enjoyed Space Monkey the most in this one which is surprising since I don't really like comedy wrestling anymore.

Match 7: Shane Sabre defeated Kobe Durst. Really good match. I had seen Durst before and knew he was good. This was my first time seeing Sabre and I was very impressed. Great back and forth action and some good spots including a Code Breaker off the top. The only problem with this one is Durst doesn't really have a personality. If he could somehow find one he would be the total package.

Match 8: Troy Nelson defeated Smart Mark Sterling. This was your typical Troy Nelson comedy match that got the crowd going.
5.75/10

Match 9: Ace Romero defeated Brian Fury. Good main event. Fury did some great arm work on Romero. These guys fought hard and gave the crowd good last match for Fury. Surprisingly Romero got the win. After the match there was an excellent show of respect shown for Fury. Greene came in and challenged Ace to a match but Fury interrupted and said he would rather see them team.
8.5/10

Good show and one of the better Limitless Wrestling shows. It had a nice flow and there wasn't a bad match. I'm looking forward to seeing Cody Rhodes in January.

Pro Wrestling Society: Addicted To Chaos Results 5/7/2016

Alex and I made the journey to Thatcher's in South Portland for the latest PWS event featuring Adam Booker vs. Ace Romero.  I was a huge Booker fan back in the old EWA days and I haven't seen him wrestle since and New Wrestling Horizons show back on April 2, 2005 in Gray, ME.  He had moved out of state for a few years but moved back to Maine and a couple years back started wrestling again.  He doesn't work many Maine dates mostly just for Chaotic in Massachusetts.

 The venue was interesting in that it was an uninsulated and unheated small electrical room on the building.  I can't imagine what it was built for initially.  The floor has a slight incline in it so the ring sloops at a slight angle. I liked it.

Mr. Vip Slick Sully vs. Amigo Ultra
Never heard of either of these guys, they are both green but put on a really good basic match.  Nothing fancy or too flashy with Sully working the arm most of the match and getting the submission win with the crossface.

The Horror w/ Rob Marsh vs. Troy Garbo w/ Rain
Again two guys I've never heard of.  The Horror was doing a deranged serial killer gimmick complete with white jumpsuit and "blood" stains on the chest.  Garbo is doing an American cowboy dressed head to toe in the flag.  The Horror dominated while Garbo bumped around before losing to an awkward looking neckbreaker or reverse bulldog, not sure.

Rob Marsh w/ The Horror vs. Rain w/ Troy Garbo
Last time I saw Marsh was in a deathmatch in Fairfield.  I read that he wasn't doing them anymore because he wants to showcase that he can wrestle with the best of them.  I really would  like to see him against someone where he could show that more.  Never heard of Rain, but it was obvious that he is green as grass.  Marsh looked good and was trying to carry a good match, Rain, he needs more work.  His finish is an elbow off the top rope, it shouldn't be.

brief intermission

Six Man Tag: BA Tatum, Nick "Flash" McKenna, & Blade Bandit vs. Owen Brody, Murdock, & Gene Geroux
Geroux was the mystery partner of Brody and Murdock.  Every time Tatum got in the ring the other team jumped to the floor.  This happened for the duration of the match until Tatum, with no known reason, turned on McKenna and Bandit causing the ref to throw the match out.

I liked that the match was thrown out and not a DQ win for McKenna and Bandit because that happened all too often in these scenarios.  It is not illegal for Tatum to attack his own partners so there should be no DQ called.  Also I hate it when you have a match like this when the good guy turns on his partners and joins the bad guys, but they just spent 15 minutes beating each other up first.  In this case they didn't touch it was great.

Xavier Bell vs. "Rugged" Rick Daniels
This was a throwback match to a style gone by and I really enjoyed it.  Bell clearly was controlling the flow of the match which saw him work and arm bar or side headlock for several minutes with some spots in between.  Rick picked up the win on a botched pin finished all thanks to the ref.  I really enjoyed the match otherwise.

PWS Champion: "Cocky" Kyle Andrews vs. Cousin Larry
Larry chopped Kyle so many times that it swelled his hand.  I've seen them wrestle so many times and yet this one was different.  The finish came when Kyle grabbed his belt and walked to the back taking the count out loss.

"Remarkable" Adam Booker vs Ace Romero
This was a fantastic match!  It started in the ring with a lock up but quickly spilled to the floor and around the ringside area.  Ace hit a a suicide dive through the ropes right in front of me.  It is so impressive to see a man the size of Romero fly out of the ring like that.  During the ringside brawl some glasses from the restaurant were knocked the the floor breaking adding and element of danger to the proceedings.  Booker got the pin with a roll up and a handful of tights.

It was really good seeing Booker in the ring again, and it was a great match.

Pro Wrestling Society returns June 3rd at Thatchers for an outdoor show featuring a Tag Team Tournament.
