2024 My Year in Wrestling!

In my 2023 year in review I stated I was not going to to try to top the 27 events I went to that year this year, but I did as I made it to 34 wrestling related events between shows and wrestling related experiences.  This is also the most events I have ever gone to in one year.  I have no expectations that in 2025 I will go to more, and I'm not going to try.

2024 by the Numbers

34 wrestling events

18 different promotions, 9 first time attending

2 different countries, 4 States, 1 new Province
US: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, & Pennsylvania
Canada: Quebec City, Quebec

I went to shows in Maine, Mass, & PA last year, however this was the first time I've been to wrestling in New Hampshire since July 19, 2008 when I attended Front Row Wrestling in Rochester, NH.

356 Lifetime events

As I have stated in the past, it might be a bit controversial but when I'm counting my wrestling related events that I attended, I count everything that I went to because of wrestling.  For instance this year I went the Nemeth Brother's comedy show Hunkamania in Philadelphia and I count that as a wrestling related event.

January started out with two shows, the 12th with ¡Let’s Wrestle! debuting at the Fairfield Community Center.  The main event was the first ever Steel Cage match in ¡Let’s Wrestle! as Champion BRG successfully turned back the challenge of Eric Johnson.

On the 20th at Limitless Wrestling in Yarmouth the main event saw an unsanctioned match and the end of MSP as Aiden Aggro pinned The Dangerkid in 49 minutes marking the final match of The DangerKid.

February featured two events, February 4th was the return of Mariner's Hockey with a wrestling show this time being promoted by the EWA: Eastern Wrestling Alliance.  This was first official EWA event that I have attended since their relaunch.  A stacked card with Dango, Scotty 2 Hotty, Tommy Dreamer, Colt Cabana, Shannon Moore, Heath Miller, Brian Myers and more.

February 24th I attended Limitless Wrestling in Yarmouth with Ace vs. Sami Callihan in a street fight, and Alec Price vs. Lio Rush in a fantastic match.

March featured 1 event on the 22nd, the NAWA: North Atlantic Wrestling Association benefit show at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham that had "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas in the main event tag teaming with Cousin Larry.

April featured  14 events two in Maine and the rest in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for IndieMania weekend!  You can read all about our Mania adventures in these 5 blog posts...

Back home in Maine, April 12th I attended NAWA at the Fairfield Community Center, that was a benefit show for the local baseball team and had a 16 person royal rumble style match.  On April 13th Limitless Wrestling in Yarmouth that had a TREMENDOUS match between Gabby Forza and Megan Bayne.  These two are must watch whenever they wrestle each other.

May had one event, back at the Fairfield Community Center on the 4th for ¡Let’s Wrestle! where BRG retained his ¡Let’s Wrestle! Championship in the Main Event against Jason Maverick.

June had one event with Limitless Wrestling on the 23rd, this time in Herman at the Morgan Hill Event Center.  AEW's Bulk Bronson teamed with Gabby Forza to defeat The Cosmic Cuties: Ava & LSG and Channing retained the Limitless Championship against Danhausen in the Maine event.

July, also one event on the 20th with Limitless Wrestling back in Yarmouth.  The final show before the Vacationland Cup finalized the 4 competitors in the tournament and also saw Limitless Champion Channing Thomas defeat ¡Let’s Wrestle! Champion: BRG to become a double champion.

August 17th Limitless Wrestling presented The 2024 Vacationland Cup at the Colisee in Lewiston featuring their largest crowd to date of over 1,200 fans in attendance. Dezmond Cole, Gabby Forza, Alec Price, and Aaron Rourke all advanced to the finals where Cole emerged as the 2024 Vacationland Cup winner.

September featured two events on back to back nights.  The 20th in Worcester, Massachusetts for Big Time Wrestling featuring Sting and the 21st back in Yarmouth for Limitless Wrestling.  Big Time Wrestling was held at Polar Park and it was a pleasant evening outside.  Tommy Dreamer got the win over Channing Thomas, and Teddy Goodz pinned Danny Miles to win the BTW Championship.  Goodz would final wrestling match was that weekend.

Limitless saw their World Championship change hands as Dezmond Cole pinned Channing Thomas in the main event.  Also on the card IWTV Tag Team Champions: Fresh Air defeated fellow Canadians Le Tabernak du Team and Dijak defeated Jake Something in an awesome match.

October 4th I traveled to Palmyra for RINGWARS for their debut shows that featured matches from competing Maine Indie Companies.  On the 26th Limitless Wrestling was in Yarmouth with Fresh Blood that featured Japan based Kyushu Pro wrestlers Jet Wei and Kodai Nozaki as well as the debut of Zilla Fatu.  However the biggest betrayal saw Delmi Exo turn on her Sea Stars partner, and sister Ashley Vox to side with Paris Van Dale.

November I went to 3 events, the first on the 6th in Manchester, New Hampshire for AEW Dynamite at the SNHU Arena.  I wasn't expecting to go to an AEW show this year, they seem to keep happening in New England when I have conflicting plans.  This was their New Hampshire debut, we got a couple dark matches, a Ring of Honor match with Shibata!!  I've always wanted to see him wrestle live and I'm glad I finally was able too.  The live Dynamite was decent with Adam Cole vs. Malachi Black and The Learning Tree vs. The Conglomeration.

Two days later on the 8th in Lowell, Mass at the Memorial Auditorium for New Japan Pro Wrestling's Fighting Spirit Unleashed.  This was the first wrestling show at the venue since NJPW in September 2019.  This was a FANTASTIC show with great matches, including a title change as the Grizzled Young Vets captured the NJPW Strong Tag Team titles.  I also met Zack Sabre Jr. before the show.

November 29th, Black Friday, I was back at the Fairfield Community Center for my 4th show of the year, and 65th overall at the venue for NAWA.

December finished the year with 4 wrestling related events.  First on the 7th in Quebec City, Quebec at the Museum of Civilization for Lutte: Quebec in the Ring exhibit.  I will be putting together a complete blog on that wonderful exhibit.  That night, also in Quebec City, we attended NSPW: North Shore Pro Wrestling: Final Chapter 2024.

The show featured Trevor Lee, Stu Grayson  and a whole host of Canadian wrestlers.  You can read about this show in more detail at this blog post: Quebec Wrestling Adventure

December 14th was the final Limitless Wrestling event of the year in Yarmouth featuring the Limitless Rumble!  I love a good Royal Rumble match and this was the first one in Limitless Wrestling, it featured 30 competitors and was won by Channing Thomas.  Also on the show B3CCA made her return filling in for an injured Maggie Lee taking on Kylie Rae and Dezmond Cole defended the Limitless Championship against Calvin Tankman in a tremendous match.

On the 17th I was back at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium for a double NXT taping.  I was shocked that this show as announced, but very excited to go back to Lowell and my first NXT show.  We sat in the same exact seats that we did for NJPW in November.  They opened with that evenings live show and then after taped next weeks Christmas Eve show.

Before the show we saw the D'Angelo Family across the street at Rizzo's Restaurant doing a pre-tape, we got our pictures taken with them.  On the first episode we got a fantastic Tag Team Title match and a NXT Championship match.  On the second taping I got to see Stephanie Vaquer and Charlie Dempsey wrestle two of my favorites in NXT.  This was a great show to end the year on!

I'm excited for next year and have a couple shows on deck already,

January 12th: Limitless Wrestling in Herman

January 18th: Limitless Wrestling in Yarmouth

Let's Wrestle Rumble Live Report 01/11/2020

On Saturday January 11, 2020 Let's Wrestle returned to the American Legion Post 84 in Orono, Maine for Chapter 12, the Let's Wrestle Rumble!

Mikey joined Canaan and myself, as well as my nephew AJ for our first wrestling live event of the year.  This is actually my nephew's first ever Indy show and also part of his Christmas present as he asked me to take him to wrestling.  I had taken him to WWE last July.

We parked at the venue then walked next door to have dinner with Roy at the OHOP before heading back to stand inline at the venue.  Because Maine winter can be very dumb at times it was 52 degrees so waiting outside for the doors to open wasn't all that bad.

I had bought front row seats for use and Mikey was going to buy as General Admission at the door, but someone was trying to give away a front row ticket they had and Mikey was the lucky recipient. This is the third time in the last four shows he's been too that he's gotten a free ticket.

Fatal Four Way: Winner get's the number 30 spot in the Rumble match
Aiden Aggro vs. Davienne vs. Scotty Wild vs. "The Prize" Alec Price

Solid opening match with all four wrestlers giving it their all.  The action was fast paced with his great high intensity.  The crowd was really into it as well.  Aggro stole pin on Wild after Price hit his finish on Wild and Aggro threw him out of the ring.

Devin Blaze vs. Danger Kid

I haven't seen Blaze in a while and post match Kid allude to the fact that Blaze hasn't wrestled in two years.  I thought the match was very good with both guys showing us some good technical wrestling before picking up the pace.  The crowd was super quiet for this match and I can't figure out why.  Multiple times though-out the night it was be as quiet as a library in the building kind of threw me off.

Finish came when Kid was on the apron and Blaze was suplexing him into the ring and Kid reversed it into a small package for the three count.

Post Match: Aggro came out and Kid asked General Manager Torres and Eric Johnson come to the ring.  Essentially MSP challenged The Stigma to a tag team championship match, they said that Johnson trained them, but he hasn't wrestled them in years and as they are now.  Match was made for the next show on February 8th back in Orono.

DL Hurst vs. CJ Cruz
This was a fantastic match and I'm not surprised.  Both of these guys are two to watch here in New England as these guys are going to have a big 2020.  I'm a fan of both of them, but I was hoping Hurst was going to pick up the win.

Again a fantastic match that went back and forth no one having the clear upper hand but both getting in some great moves.  In the end Hurst fell victim to that beautiful missile drop kick that Cruz has.  I don't know what he calls it but Cruz Missile would be cool.

Fan's Bring the Weapons match
Let's Wrestle Champion: "Classic" Kalvin Strange vs. "Mass Hole" Mike McCarthy

Some decent weapons including an umbrella, a couple kendo sitcks, 7 lbs of used staples, and some ass hole that brought a Dolphins helmet.  To the surprise of no one the match quickly got physical with the weapons coming into the play.  To me though the most violent spot in the match was when McCarthy was standing on the apron and suplexed Strange who was standing in the ring onto the floor.

He then  dumped the blob that was the seven pounds of used staples on the floor and bodyslammed Strange on them.  It was wicked!  The match continued back in the ring where Strange for the upper hand with a cane shot to the head and then a headbutt to McCarthy while wearing the Miami Dolphins helmet.  At this point the Mass Hole was busted open.

Strange would have been wise to keep the helmet on because in the end McCarthy jumped off the top rope finishing Strange with a DDT capturing the championship!

We then had an intermission while the ring and ringside area were cleaned up.  AJ got his photo taken with the Maine State Posse.

Ava Everett's Birthday Bash Open Challenge
Limitless Wrestling World Champion: Retro AG vs. Ava Everett

It's Ava's birthday and the open challenge was answered by her boyfriend AG who gifted her a cake that said It Is Your Birthday and a title shot for the Limitless Wrestling World Championship.  Ava used every dirty trick that she could use and cheated as much as she could, but it wasn't enough for her to win the championship as AG retained with his corner pull up piledriver.

I know what you are thinking, there is a cake at ringside, whose face did it end up in? Why Eric Greenleaf.

KenneLee: Alexander Lee & Kennedi Copeland vs. Harris County Club: Bret Ryan Gosselin & Malik Logan

Fun tag team match with KenneLee coming out on top when Alexander Lee pinned Logan after a splash off the top rope. I appreciated the fact that Harris Country Club wore their old school matching gear.  I've only seen Copeland live a few times over the years but I must say that she has gotten better and continues to do better.  I really dig the tag team of KenneLee.

2020 Let's Wrestle Rumble
"The Prize" Alec Price won last eliminating CJ Cruz

I think overall this years Rumble match was better than last years.  Mikey was convinced that D'Lo Brown was going to be a surprise entrant, I even brought my cards just in case, but he wasn't.  Mac Daniels was the number 1 entrant and he brought someone to watch his back just in case one of the referee's tried to get one up on him, Jon Alba.  The crowd was pissed!

We got an entrant every 90 seconds, the ring never filled up too much and once it built up kept a good number of people in the ring at a time.  Mac Daniels lasted the longest in the match with Danger Kid lasting the second longest.  Sara Teller has the distinction of lasting the least amount of time.  Daniels eliminated the most competitors with 6 eliminations.

The save of the match went to Alexander Lee who body surged over Eric Greenleaf to avoid elimination.

I loved when Cruz entered the match and he and Price squared off continuing their feud. It was also cool that it came down to the two of them.  I'm very excited that Price got the win,   I think he and McCarthy will have some great matches over the championship.

The rumble match built two new opponents for Mac Daniels with how he eliminated Greene and how he was eliminated by Cruz.

Limitless Wrestling Live Report 10/25/2019

Friday October 25th Limitless Wrestling  returned to action, this time in a new venue, at the AMvets Hall Post 2 in Yarmouth, Maine.  Canaan rode down with me and we met Mikey, Josh, & Roy there.  Carolynn attended her second ever Limitless show, the first being last month's Expo event.  Also saw the usually cast of regulars, Phil, Jess, Megan, Alex, and many others.

I like the venue a lot, easy to find, right of 295, big parking lot.  The place was packed, leaving little room for the gimmick tables but we all make due the best we can.  I would wager it was basically a sell out.

Pres-show Let's Wrestle showcase

CJ Cruz pinned "The Prize" Alec Price

These guys have has some great matches in Let's Wrestle, and if you are going to showcase the promotion you couldn't pick two better guys to represent the brand.  They brought everything that they had tonight and absolutely killed it!  Honestly this match set a very high standard for the rest of the card to have to follow.  Cruz pinned Price after a wicked missile dropkick.

Leyla Hirsch pinned John Silver

Hard hitting match that was fast paced at times.  Several times it appeared that Silver had completely wrecked Hirsch but she just kept coming.  At one point Silver hit her with an impressive helicopter style blue thunder bomb.  It wasn't enough though as in the end Leyla walked out with her hand raised in victor.

Maine State Posse: Aiden Aggro & Danger Kid defeated Violence is Forever: Kevin Ku & Dominic Garrini

Excellent tag team match! My first time seeing Violence is Forever live, they work very well together and utilize quick tags and high impact offense.  At one point this match broke down into a slap fight, the most violent slap fight I have ever seen.  MSP continued their winning ways pinning Ku after their finish.  I'm excited to see who is next for MSP.

Kris Statlander pinned Caleb Konley

This was a great match, no surprise with the competitors.  We've seen Konley here in Maine before with Big Time Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Experience, including this past August in Fairfield.  However this was his first time with Limitless and I'm guessing that he'll be back.

Awesome combination tonight as Konley reversed an avalanche hurricanrana rolling through and coming with with a powerbomb, bucklebomb, and variation of a sit-out powerbomb for a two count on Stat.  Stat picked up the win with her finisher.

Kris Stat just keeps getting better and better every time I see her.  I've heard that she signed with WWE but doesn't start until January which is great for her but bad for us.  I had gotten my picture taken with her the night she debuted in Limitless and I got another one tonight.

Gangrel defeated DL Hurst, Alexander Lee with Joey Eastman, & Danhausen in an elimination match

This was a fun match!  Lee had a lot of heat with the crowd, rightfully so, and Eastman is just a natural at getting people to hate him.  It was super cool hearing Gangrel's music and seeing his entrance, he had his goblet of blood and spit it before the match.

At the bell DL Hurst hit a quick package piledriver on Lee causing him to roll to the floor.  Danhausen then stood on the ring apron as "Tequila" began to play and he did the Pee Wee Herman dance kicking Lee in the face a couple times.  Trying to get away Lee ran into Hurst who also did the dance and kicked Lee in the face.  Rolling back in the ring he had a double kick will the fans yelled Tequila, it was a pretty amazing moment that got even better when Gangrel started doing the Pee Wee Herman dance.

The action picked up with Gangrel hitting is patented double arm suplex on Hurst.  A bit later Hurst had the upperhand on Lee but after being distracted by Eastman, Lee chop blocked Hurst and rolled him up for a three count holding the tights.

Danhausen was the next to be eliminated also by Lee after being hit with a low blow and what I'm going to call a reverse pedigree.  Not before Danhausen poured his jar of teeth down Lee's throat.

Eastman attempted to help Lee but got blood spit in his face from Gangrel who then pinned Lee after a wicked implant DDT.  For a guy that is 50 years old Gangrel looked awesome.

Anything Goes: Dan Maff pinned Mathew Justice

WOW!  I'm not even going to try just go find this match and watch the hell out of it!  They beat the piss out of each other in and out of the ring first with just their first and then brought in tables and doors.  When the match was over the ring was a mess of broken door debris.

I'm a HUGE fan of Mathew Justice now and I want him at every Limitless show going forward.  The matches he could have with Ace Romero, Briggs, Greene, and basically everyone.

Women's Scramble Match
Ashley Vox defeated Masha Slamovich, Jody Threat, Allie Kat, & Skylar with Jeremy Leary

This was the first match back after intermission and it got the crowd back up.  Got to see Slamovich with a sweet wheelbarrow suplex on Vox and Saito suplex on Kat.  Threat was irish whipped by Kat on her skateboard into Slamovich spearing her into the chairs.  Vox got the win when she submitted Slamovich.

Post match Kris Stat came out to celebrate with Vox, who got up on Stat's shoulders.  Stat then cut a promo stating that they were a team and proposed they take on MSP.  Then she said they should challenge the winner of Greene vs. Briggs in a triple threat match.  But ultimately she decided "How about I finish what I started and fucking murder you" dropping Vox on her face.

After a pull apart brawl Statlander challenged Vox to a Last Creature Standing Match.

"Red Death" Daniel Garcia submitted Fred Yehi

And now for something completely different.  This match was an excellent mat based encounter with striking, reversals, and submissions.  I friggin loved it!  So glad to see Yehi back and I hope he doesn't take so long to comeback next time.

Garcia submitted Yehi with a modified sharpshooter.

JT Dunn, Christian Casanova, & Joshua Bishop defeated Kevin Blackwood & The Butcher and The Blade

This was a wild and fast paced match.  One sick spot the Butcher had Casanova in a Texas cloverleaf, he picked him up and slammed him back down into a powerbomb and right back into a cloverleaf, it was friggin brilliant!

Blackwood had Casanova up in a fireman's carry and wiggled out, Dunn then appeared to accidentally hit Blackwood with death by elbow getting the pin.

Limitless Wrestling World Champion: Anthony Greene pinned Josh Briggs

Solid main event Glad to see Briggs back, it's been a long time since he was last in Limitless since his hip injury.  These two guys brought it for a solid match that saw Greene retain with his super tomikazi.

Post match Greene cut a promo challenging Teddy Hart, which everyone seemed to really like the idea of Greene vs. Hart one on one.  But then he said to bring Davey Boy with him and he would get Ace to be his partner.  Still an awesome match, but I hope we get Greene vs. Hart down the line.

It was another great show from top to bottom for Limitless.  Through-out the night they announced their return to this venue on Black Friday November 29th for what will presumably be their last show of the year.

Warhorse returns, AG & Ace vs. The New Hart Foundation, the return of JD Drake, and Last Creature Standing Kris Statlander vs. Ashley Vox.  I think tickets go on sale on November 11th at www.limitlesswrestling.com
