IWE Wrestling Live Report November 1, 2019

Tonight my friends and I had tickets to see Evil Dead: The Musical in Orono, Maine but due to a Halloween Night storm the venue was without power and cancelled the show.  So instead I headed to the Fairfield Community Center for a night of IWE Wrestling action!

Roughly 75 fans were in attendance, which is really good considering Fairfield is a big football town and there a home playoff game tonight as well.  IWE would have had no way of knowing this when they booked the show.  I remember a half dozen years ago I was one of 6 in the building on the same night as homecoming.

Unfortunately card subject to change was in full effect with a handful of advertised talent was unable to attend.  None the less we were treated to a card of five matches.

The show opened with General Manager Adam Ricker cutting a promo about tonight's main event and talking about his tag team title defense tomorrow against CPA.  He and his partner Jimmy Limits was going to take the night off to rest for tomorrow but JP O'Reilly & Ricky Williams were going to be in action tonight, and O'Reilly's match was now.

2 on 1 Handicap Match: JP O'Reilly with Ricky Williams vs. Roadblock & Lucifer with Coach Beavis

Roadblock and Lucifer had to tag in and out during the match.  Coach Beavis wanted Williams to leave ringside because he didn't have a managers license, which is old school and always makes me laugh.
O'Reilly held his own during the match beating the crap out of Roadblock along the way with an especially brutal kick in the jaw.

The finish was interesting as Lucifer was choking O'Reilly he refused to stop after the referee's 5 count and even pushed the referee who called for the bell for an obvious disqualification....wrong he declared it a no contest.

"Scuffling Hillbilly" Larry Huntley vs. Jason Maverick with Coach Beavis

I've known Larry for 20 years and I've always been entertained by his style of wrestling, which has evolved over the years, and tonight was no different.  Larry dominated the majority of the match winning after a Polish Hammer and getting the pin with the whoopee cushion.  Only downside to the match is we got no chops.

Ricky Williams with JP O'Reilly vs. The Horror

The Horror came out in a bugs bunny costume, good back and forth match.  They worked an excellent bear hug spot.  They teased thumbtacks, but instead it was gummy bears in the bag, Horror chokeslammed Williams on the gummy's for the three count.

Johnny Primer vs. "Boston Bad Boy" Jason Rumble with Adam Ricker

This is my first time seeing Primer wrestle in years.  At one point Rumble was on the floor and the referee was laying in the count and Rumble said "I have until the count of 10" which is one thousand percent accurate.  I know it might seem ridiculous to others, but it's now pinning someone for three seconds, of breaking a hold after 5 seconds, or 10 seconds for a count out.  It's a three count, five count, and 10 count.  However long it takes the referee to administer that count is how long the competitor has to comply.  Even then, it's at the referee's discretion.

Rumble his sweet butterfly suplex late into the match, but it wasn't enough.  Ricker tried to interfere and John Bryar came to ringside to aid Primer.  Rumble went to the floor to confront Bryar which distracted the referee.  Ricker attempted to attack Primer but ate a cutter, Rumble then ate a cutter with Primer getting the three count.

The Guatemalan Prince vs. Allen Prophet

This match plodded a bit, but overall was decent.  They bottom rope broke early in the match and they didn't seem hampered by it at all.  Prophet is very athletic and has some good high flying skills including a picture perfect frog splash!  He just needs work on stringing his high spots together and not just set up, execute, set up, execute.

The finish came when Prince had the referee back into the corner questioning a two count when Prophet came up behind him, Prince mule kicked him in the groin and then hit the rope assisted piledriver for the pin.  Post match Prince continued the attack on Prophet before heading to the back.

Prince, to me, shows a ton of potential if he keeps at it and gets under someones learning tree like Rumble.  He has moments where he's on point and others where he is struggling.  From what I've seen tonight and in the past he wants to be a wild brawler type like Bruiser Brody or Stan Hansen.  He should just embrace it for a spell and see what happens.

With intermission the show was over at 9:20pm so it was under two hours.  They didn't announce a return date that I could hear, but I'm guessing the beginning of December.  If you follow in the IWE or IWE Fan Nation Facebook pages they will announce it there.

IWE Fairfield, Maine May 3, 2019

For the first time since August 2018 I managed to make it to the Fairfield Community Center for some IWE wrestling action.  I had been told that they had a new ring they had been using that was smaller than a pony ring, one of my friends doesn't even like going to the shows because of the ring, but this was the first time I had seen it and WOW!  This ring is like a ten foot, maybe twelve foot, and floor to top of ring post is about six feet.

In a night club, low ceiling, or smaller setting this would be a great ring, but in this building it just makes the ring look even smaller.  I will say this the ring sounded really good, which you might think is odd but I think is important.

Forty other fans joined me on this rainy night, including my buddy Phil, for what ended up being six matches headlined by an IWE Triple Crown Championship match.  The ring announcer for the night was The Handsome Mainer and they did not have a house microphone so he just yelled out the introductions and he did a respectable job.

Angel Cross with his bowl of fried chicken
The show opened with Adam Ricker coming to the ring announcing the main event and then The Street: Elite Terrell & Angel Cross came out for a promo, Angel Cross was eating fried chicken during this.  Their advertised opponents The Mutts were not there so Ricky Williams and JP O'Reilly came out to challenge them.  With no house mic you could only hear certain wrestlers that put in the effort to speak loud, Angel Cross didn't.

Cousin Larry pinned Jason Maverick with a fist drop

Maverick is new, Larry has been wrestling I think 20 years this year.  This was a short match Larry lit Maverick up with 20 chops in a row.  Finish was awkward Maverick either forgot or decided to not kick out.

Scott McGraw pinned Roadblock with Beavis Mae and The Guatemalan Prince
I've never seen McGraw, he has the Texan gimmick with cowboy boots and cowbell on bullrope.  Another super short match with McGraw getting the pin after a big boot.  Post match there was some awkwardness and Prince jumped in the ring which lead to...

Scott McGraw pinned The Guatemalan Prince with Beavis Mae

This match was also about four minutes with McGraw getting the pin with a tomikaze.  This match was more competitive than the previous one with the same result though.

The Street: Angel Cross & Elite Street defeated Canadian Penguin Alliance: "Mr. Canada" Ricky Williams & JP O'Reilly

Okay so JP comes out with a giant stuffed penguin named Punky, I'm not sure why he's adopted this as his companion but think Golga and his Cartman.  JP came to the ring without his stuffed Penguin and was quite upset about it.  So the Street, of course, were the ones that stole it and brought it to the ring with them.  O'Reilly was so mad that he went and stole The Street's Fried Chicken!  Yes I just typed those words.

The match itself was decent, I think the size of the ring hampered them and it's hard to cut off and work only one side of a ten foot ring.  Punky the Penguin was involved in the finish, Terrell hit a one man flapjack on O'Reilly and Cross threw Punky at his causing O'Reilly to fall on the plush toy.  Cross and Punky then pinned O'Reilly for the win.

I've never sat front row and been able to take a picture of the whole ring before
The Street then celebrated by reclaiming their fried chicken.

After 45 minutes of wrestling it was time for an intermission which ran for over 20 minutes.  I really can't stand an unnecessarily long intermission.

Elimination Match:  The Horror with The Captain defeated Frank Jaeger & Malik Logan with William Miles 3rd

Jaeger is getting better and he worked his ass off tonight.  He eliminated Logan with the Jaeger bomb and then The Horror pinned Jaeger with the world's strongest slam.  The match had a few decent moments.

Post match The Captain and The Horror stood around in the ring for a bit like they were waiting for something.  I think The Captain then cut a promo about someone not being there and something about tomorrow night in Brewer.  I'm not sure I couldn't understand him.

Triple Crown Champion: Jimmy Limits pinned "Boston Bad Boy" Jason Rumble

This was the best match of the night without question, but that shouldn't be a surprise.  I first saw Rumble back in 1998 for EWA in Lewiston and he can still go in the ring.  He pulled off and excellent Canadian Destroyer and got some wicked height with an elbow drop off the top rope.

During the match a thumb wrestling war broke out, Rumble won three straight falls.

After the destroyer Rumble went for a pin that Limits broke his foot on the ropes.  Limits later pinned Rumble who had his foot on the rope but the referee didn't see it and counted the three giving Limits the win.

The show ended at 9:25pm, considering it started late and had an intermission that ran over 20 minutes we are looking at about 80 minutes of wrestling which is kind of disappointing.  Did I get my $10, yeah I was entertained.  I guess my biggest hang up is the size of the ring, I'm not sure I can get used to it.

Not sure when IWE returns to Fairfield, probably first weekend in June but stayed tuned to the IWE Facebook page for more information.

IWE Live Report 8/10/2018 Fairfield, Maine

Finally my horrendous work schedule as allowed me to attend a local indy wrestling event.  Sadly I've missed the last three Limitless Wrestling shows because of illness and work.

This IWE show advertised a women's wrestling match and because of that I decided it would be a good night to take Addison to her first IWE show in Fairfield.  She doesn't really like wrestling like Canaan does, and neither like it like I do, but she recently asked about going.  Canaan and Alex also went with us and we met Mikey at the show.

Eric Johnson pinned BF Summers

I was told Summers is a trainee, it shows.  Johnson lead Summers through a good match that ended Johnson getting the win.

Boris Darov pinned Jeff James

I pretty sure I got the Russian's name wrong.  He called me a pig at the beginning of the match and that was funny to me but Addison was not amused.  This was a decent match and my first time seeing both of them that I can recall.  James has got a good look and in time is going to be excellent to watch in the ring.

Boris dominated most of the match and James made the fiery comeback only to get cut off and was finished with a fireman's carry into a slam.

Jasmine Hawkes pinned Lilah Dare

My first time seeing both of these ladies.  I thought it was good match, both girls worked hard and well together.  I had watched a match between them on YouTube the night before that thought this match was better.  Hawkes got the pin with a roll up and her feet on the ropes.

Triple Crown Champion: Jason Rumble defeated Angel Cross by disqualification

This was an excellent match between Rumble and one half of the Tag Team Champions Angel Cross.  Rumble pretty much dominated the match even giving a Cross a lesson in arm bars at the beginning of the contest.  Rumble got the win when Brandino Davis ran in attacking Rumble.

Chad Epik came out after intermission and cut a promo about the new talent initiative that IWE has and that next month he will be bringing in new talent.

Triple Threat Match: Brandino Davis defeated Jimmy Limits and Elite Terrell

This was great!  Limits and Terrell started teaming up against Davis at the beginning of the match before it became every man for himself.  Davis got the win pinning Limits securing a title match the next night in Brewer.

Ricky Williams pinned Frank Jaegar

It is obvious that Jeagar is very new and he should either work exceptionally hard on his punches or start throwing forearms.  I once read that Ric Flair perfect his punch by hanging a piece of string and then practicing endlessly at making it look good but never hitting the string.

Guatemalan Prince pinned Bobby Landell

Two trainees that I'm told have a feud building. I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised.  Landell attacked Prince from behind jump starting the match.  It was pretty high intensity with heavy bumps for several minutes.  But, in my opinion the match was just took long.  Had they cut five minutes out of it the flow would have been better.  Also Prince got the pin after his fourth splash, which was two too many.

There was some post match shenanigans with Prince throwing himself into a bunch of folding chairs trying to hit Landell who moved out of the way.  It didn't make sense to me why it was happening.

Dog Collar Match: Mason X defeated "Big Moxie" Matt Mahoney

These guys delivered!  Brutal and stiff match that also used kendo sticks, cookie sheets, a barbed wire bat, thumbtacks and more.  My daughter thought they shouldn't be doing it as they could hurt themselves, my son was yelling for more.  In the end Mason X got the win when he choked Moxie out with the chain and the referee stopped the match.

It was a fun night of wrestling.  The best part for me was watching my daughter get into the matches because it was real to her.  She doesn't watch wrestling at home and doesn't really care for it but had recently asked about going and tonight just lined up proper.  I let her get a couple autographed photos and she got her picture taken with Lilah, Jasmine, and Rumble.

IWE has a show this Friday August 17th in Dexter and I believe they return to Fairfield on September 7th.
