The Cost of Being A Wrestling Fan: November 2024

November became another expensive month in my fandom.

I have no regrets mind you, I just got a little carried away when it came to getting NWA Wonderaama and other cards signed at WrestleCade.  I didn't even buy any merch at either the AEW or New Japan shows that I went to.  Let's get to the breakdown.

I purchased 3 trading cards this month spending $8.21, an AEW Toni Storm and I did an eBay box break where I paid $6.85 for any and all Wendi Richter cards that came up in a WWE 2024 Panini box break.  I had never done that before, I got two cards out of it, it was fun to watch the live break.

I mailed off cards to get signed to Captains Corner and to a couple different people for WrestleCade spending $33.45 at the post office myself to ship them off.

At the Wrestling Classic for $80 my buddy Mikey got me 3 cards signed by Steve Lombardi under his names The Brooklyn Brawler, Abe "Knuckleball" Schwartz, and Kim Chee.  I was very excited to get that dual Kamala and Kim Chee card finished.  Nic with Captains Corner cut me a deal for $115 to get cards signed by Jimmy Valiant and Jim Ross from the NWA Wonderama set.

WrestleCade this year was once again in Winston-Salem, NC and by good friend Brandon did me a huge solid and finished my grail card from the NWA Wonderama set as he got JJ Dillon to finish off that card. I will have a post soon about it so please check back with the blog to see that post.  He also got JJ to sing 4 other cards from the set and a program for my buddy Jay.  While he was there he also got Baby Doll to sign 2 cards for me.  I tried to get him a 3rd, one that Jim Ross signed she is on as well, but I didn't get it back in time, and with the Thanksgiving it didn't make it to him.  JJ & Baby Doll totaled $154.82.  As Brandon was only going to WrestleCade for me to get my cards signed, specifically JJ Dillon, I paid for his admission at $40.

Continuing at WrestleCade Highspots brought in Toni Storm and it was cheaper to do mail in with them than it was to get things signed in person.  After much deliberation I spent the $102.95 to get two cards signed, that included return shipping that was $12.95.  I had and AEW and Stardom card signed.  The completionist in me will be bothered that I didn't get a WWE card signed as well, but these two cards were more important to me to get signed, and frankly I will get over it.

The final WrestleCade expenses was $110 to get 5 cards signed by Billie Starkz with $10 of that being the return postage.  I'm working on getting not just all of her cards, but them signed.  This lot is 4 AEW cards and 1 from the 2022 Wrestling Revolver Once Upon a Time in Iowa set.

I bought the AEW Daniel Garcia figure for $20 because I need a figure of my pal Dan, former Limitless Wrestling Champion.

I attended 3 wrestling shows in November, AEW in Manchester, NH on the 6th, NJPW in Lowell, MA on the 8th and NAWA in Fairfield, Maine on the 29th.  Tickets for the AEW and NJPW shows were purchased in September.  I spent $30 on two tickets to NAWA, and purchased a ticket for NXT in Lowell, MA on December 17th for $81.

I drove a total of 695.4 miles to my wrestling shows, spending at total of $159.52 on gas, tolls, parking, snacks, and meals going to these 3 shows.

At NAWA I bought a Tommy Dreamer Microbrawler in package for $5 and a sealed brand new Rise and Fall of ECW DVD Set for $3, that goes for $20 or better on eBay.  I own it so I'm going to resell it.

My streaming services ran me $29.24.  The final $8.75 was my portion of the AEW Full Gear PPV

I can't imagine December will be any bigger than November but I guess we shall see.  I have 3 planned shows in December, the aforementioned NXT event in Lowell, Limitless Wrestling on the 14th and on the 7th North Shore Pro Wrestling in Quebec City, Canada.

The Cost of Being A Wrestling Fan: October 2024

For those wondering, here are the October expenses..

I managed to spend more than half as much in October than I did in September, so that's good.  Let's jump in!

Let's start with my streaming services at $37.32,  $19.99 for the AEW WrestleDream PPV, and $16.43 on the Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling bundle on Triller, Mikey split the cost with me.

I bought some wrestling cards this month at live events, ebay, and huskerhav spending $188.51 on the hobby.  I'm very focused on getting NWA Wonderama cards signed.  I've very rarely purchased signed cards, however I came across the dual signed Tully Blanchard and Jimmy Garvin cards from a reputable seller on Ebay.

They were selling them for less than it would cost me to buy the cards and then locate both wrestlers to have them sign them. I'm on the fence on this is something I am going to continue to do or not.

I attended two wrestling shows in October, first up was the Ringwars promotion that Wesley attended as well.  I paid for the tickets in September, however we spent $44.12 on gas, food, and snacks and drove 114.8 miles round trip for the show.  Wesley also got a Ringwars Logo sticker for $5.

The second show of the month was Limitless Wrestling where I spent $40 on my ticket, $27.56 on gas and food with 74 miles driven round trip.  I bought a card from Joseph Alexander and a Limitless Limited Edition Zilla Fatu card, and spent $20 on a tremendously awesome Perry Von Vicious t-shirt.

The remaining October wrestling purchases was a 1 year digital subscription to PWI Magazine for $10 and $52.75 for a meet and greet with IWGP World Champion: Zack Sabre Jr. at the New Japan show in Lowell, Mass in November.

Next month has potential to be a bit more expensive, I have two big wrestling shows I'm attending and there area couple big signings to add some Wonderama cards to my collection, and finally finishing my grail card.

The Cost of Being A Wrestling Fan: September 2024

Here are the September monies spend on my beloved pro wrestling, and to be honest I'm a bit embarrassed at the total, even though I have no regrets!

Wrestling cards were a big chunk of the month spending $323.39 on various cards.  They ranged from signed NWA Wonderama cards to a new indie card set so I can get Gabby Forza to sign her rookie card.

I bought a few wrestling tickets for shows not in this month which totaled $221,  An indie show in Maine in October, AEW November 6th in Manchester, NH and NJWP November 8th in Lowell, Mass.  Locally I spent $40 on a Limitless Ticket and spent $19.58 on Gas and Food.

On the 20th I went to Worcester, MA for Big Time Wrestling featuring STING!  My buddy Jay and I tried for years to go see Sting and something seemed to always happen to prevent us going or it was cancelled.  I met Sting at WrestleCon this past April, however Jay still hadn't so I went with him and Mikey came with us.  Gas, Food, Tolls, and Parking was $87.34.  I did go ahead in buy the Sting meet and greet for $205 to finish out my Sting signed card collection, I now have NWA, WCW, TNA, WWE, & AEW Cards signed.  This was also a much better experience than WrestleCon because we got a good couple minutes with Sting rather than the 10 seconds in Philly.

Streaming services were $37.23 and the AEW All In / All Out PPV package was $34.99, the final $56 went towards two custom wrestling VHS tapes and they are bad ass.  FTR vs. Briscoes feud and Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka in ECW.

Drove a combined 476 miles for wrestling shows this month.

The Cost of Being A Wrestling Fan: July 2024

Here we go with July expenses..

I went deep on adding some hard to find Billie Starkz cards to my collection, I'm trying to get all of her cards and there are a few I just don't have.  I bought cards from Ebay and other collectors, and even made a trade for one, spent $170.37.

I bought a few more cards from the fella in Mexico, for $22, Sam Adonis, Stephanie Vaquer, and a Faby Apache.

I went to Limitless Wrestling, the ticket and associated expenses there was $67.54.  At the show I got Danhausen to sign his AEW moments card for $20.  It's a bad ass signature but I might sell it.

Outside normal monthly expenses for streaming services, I spent $81 for my buddy Matt to get my Sting AEW FInal Encounter Trading card signed at WrestleCon in Cleveland.

On the spur of the moment I ended up buying a new Tully Blanchard t-shirt celebrating the famed Starrcade 85 "I Quit" Match, one of my all time favorite match.  I also bought a pair of 4 Horsemen shorts as it was from Arn Anderson's site so the are officially licensed for $92.66.
